Is there a way to de-activate the auto-level so it's set to "off" without having to load the FS2K Concorde .gau file?  Right now, the auto-level is active when the bendix autopilot is engauged and there is to way to shut it off.  Also, can it be made to allow the plane to turn when the auto-level is on?  Thanks in advance.

Hi John....Yes you can make set it to OFF but no you can't turn the plane when it is off...you will have to toggle it on the AP to do that....

 Add these two lines in the Autopilot section of the aircraft.cfg file for EACH airplane you want  to have the W/L off at startup

use_no_default_bank=1
use_no_default_pitch=1

....commoner ;)

..or maybe I misread your question........

Hello there
Isnt the auto-level a switch on the panel?
if on at start-up, it would be lit, click on it to turn it off...
you can turn, using rudder..but cannot bank a plane that has auto-lvl on

It's a sort of bug that came in the later versions of FS whereby the wing leveler was active at start up but didn't show (lit up)on the AP panel......very disconcerting to somebody who didn't know about it as you couldn't turn the aircraft in flight. The other way to do it was to click the Auto pilot NAV button on and off which released the wing leveler.........With the AP on you can then toggle it on and off with the button as you would expect. Adding these two lines stops that happening and makes it as it used to be in FS2000.............

Hope this answers your question..........commoner ;)

BTW.....Rudder alone doesn't TURN an a/c........it YAWS it(or so I understand ;)

Commoner, you're right about the rudder only yawing the plane, but if you do a yaw, the wings automatically bank into the turn (assuming ap is turned off), unless you apply opposite aileron.  Sometimes yaws are desirable, as in extremely short finals and you're not exactly lined up with the runway, and altitude forbids a banking turn -- only try this with light props - like the Cessna 206 or equivelant.  Hope this helps.

[glow=yellow,2,300]only try this with light props[/glow]---> cept when the size of aircraft prohibits banking, as in a crosswind landing, rudder is the only recovery from 'crabbing' approach
