I'm really grasping now...  Try realoading your USB drivers from the mother-board's CD..

You've been having M/B problems.. so maybe they got messed up during all the RAM swapping.. power-supply cable plugging and CMOS re-setting...

[quote]The real puzzler here is... well, let's review:

1) X45 would not work ailerons for right turn only.
2) Brand-new unused Saitek S290... ailerons OK. Clearly just a broken X45, right? Maybe, because...
3) Both joysticks: throttle is wild and unpredictable, as if a loose cable in RL. What the- ??
4) With keyboard: ailerons work OK... BUT:
5) With keyboard: Throttle problem is still present!

That seems like the most logical explaination. Is your Keyboard USB?

I think it could be a combination of a number of things;

1) X45 could be broken with the right turn, but not the throttle.
2) Other joystick is fine
3) USB keyboard is overriding the throttle controls of the joystick because of skewy MOBO or just skewy USB ports.

Do you have/can you get your hands on an older joystick that maybe doesn't use a USB port?

It's not a USB keyboard, and pulling it, rebooting and restarting didn't fix the problem.
But I think Brett's got a good idea- The sim had worked normally since my latest troubleshooting, etc., but it could very well be a corrupted driver issue.

Stand by...  ;D

Tried to reinstall just the Asus USB drivers, but it said I didn't need to with the service pack I have installed- and wouldn't let me.
Ran the "Install all" program instead, and the throttle problem seemed to go away.
All keyboard functions in FS9 arre fine... if I use the dedicated sim keyboard, not the old one I've been using with both PCs via a KVM switch for months now... the sim rig is just not happy with that keyboard anymore- not even for Notepad. Works fine on this rig, but not the sim rig.
It's an old piece of crap anyway, so rather than go digging for its drivers, I'll just have to bust out the small keyboard for that machine until I get the pit finished.

Meanwhile, the X45 still will not register right aileron input, in calibration or the sim (whereas the 295n works fine).
I'll have to crack it open later and have a look at that.

So I think I had a classic multiple-fault scenario...  ::) When it rains it pours, I guess...  :(

Thanks, all, for your help! :)

Just a shot in the dark. Could it be your keyboard?

Maybe both joysticks and the keyboard have failed simultaneously... but I doubt it. ;)

Nonooo. I was wondering if the keyboard was the problem & causing a conflict with your joystick. Stranger things have happened.

It was only a suggestion. Wish I'd kept quiet now. :-[

I have had my Saitek conflict with my keyboard and it went crazy. Dusted out the USB and restart the computer and all is well (except for a few occasional issues that I just have to get over.)
Why me...?

Trruuust me, your not alone.

Latest: Installed the X45 in the old rig, and it seems fine (in the Saitek diagnostic program, anyway).

This is most likely mobo-related... shortly after the joystick problem, I suddenly had some sort of IDE problem, causing the CD/DVD drive to not work. Fixed that (corrupt drivers, I guess) and will have to... sigh... reinstall FS9 to see if that fixes the stupid joystick problems.

A shot in the dark here, but cant it be that some of your controls are conflicting with eachother? My CH yoke had a throttle assigned and so did my X-52, i caused my PMDG 737 to completely flipout and not accelerate beyond 40 IAS. You could try removing the keyboard assigments for the controls, it atleast eliminates a possible problem.

I just got Acceleration (I know.. that's FSX, but it kind of applies here) and all the planes are joystick users (F-18, Some big Helo, and a P-51 racer)...

My joystick "twisty" rudder was giving my CH rudder pedals fits.. So I opened it up and unplugged the little potentiometer for the twisting rudder....  all is well..  But that still doesn't address an unused yoke from bothering the joystick (and vice versa).. and I got tired of unplugging /re-plugging when switching planes... so I just disable one or the other from Device Manager before flying.. because you cannot delete a control axis from the assignments page... I tried reducing the sensitivily all the way, and making the null-zone maximun.. but it STILL caused problems.

Is your joystick USB or on the Midi game port?
You could have a hardware problem. Try onther USB port if it is that or another sound card
