4 engines into 2?

Postby Zaphod » Fri Oct 19, 2007 9:18 am

Hi all.

I was wondering, is it possible to "fool" an aircraft into thinking it has 2 engines instead of 4 with no loss of performance?
The reason?
I have recently purchased a Saitek Aviator AV8R joystick which has 2 throttle axis. These make taxiing the default DC3 (and any other twin engined tail dragger) a real pleasure and I would like to be able to do the same with my larger 4 engined props (Avro Lancaster, Handley Page Halifax etc).
I've tried to use the "assignments" function in FS9 but it won't allow me to assign 2 engines to the same axis. If I could assign engines 1 and 2 too axis 1 and engines 3 and 4 too axis 2 it would be ideal.
Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting question...

Off the top of my head, I'd say you could edit the aircraft.cfg file, and make it a 2-engine airplane (where each engine's power/thrust is doubled).. But that would get into animation problems.. and take away the possibility of single engine failures (if you ever want to deal with that)..

I got a feeling this can be done via FSUIPC...   I'm sure we'll find out..  :)

Hi Brett.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Yes I had thought of that myself, but the lack of animation on engines 2 and 3 would be unexceptable to me.
When you mention FSUIPC I assume I would need the full version?
