Joystick Configuration

I have a Saitek Aviator joystick. Under program control, I can display the mouse cursor on the x and y axis under a different mode setting. The joystick moves the cursor all over the screen, but when I go to select a gauge function, it does not respond like the "left" mouse button. I have the "enter" key programmed as the selection button. Any ideas on how to make this work.....??
