Building database for scenery files..

Postby Zaphod » Tue Jun 26, 2007 5:07 am

First of all let me apologise. I know this question has come up before but I can't find it on searching.

Yesterday I installed a piece of Scenery "taskforce.zip" from the scenery download section here at SimV and it has all installed and works fine but..every time I start the sim I get the message "Building Database for new scenery files etc". I know there's a way to stop this but can't remember what I must do.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Goto the Scenery Library, highlight the scenery area and click 'edit'. Make sure the 'Use this scenery directly' radio button is selected.

A combination of 'Cache this scenery' and 'Empty CD-ROM cache on exit' causes the scenery files to be re-written to the cache on each start, thus the 'update'. 'Cache this scenery' is only used for scenery stored on CD (or I 'spose for scenery stored on a slower drive).

It sounds like you put the bgl file inside the main scenery folder by it self.
What you need to do is make a folder inside of the addon scenery folder giving it a meaningful name then
make a scenery and texture folder inside of the new folder you just made. You then put the bgl files inside of the new folder and inside the scenery folder any other files would go into the texture folder inside the new folder. Then all that is left to do is to add the scenery when you start FS. You will need to restart FS again after you add the scenery. 8-)

Well..
Thanks for the replies Guys.
I have;
FS9/Addon Scenery/Carrier Group, inside of which I have 2 folders, Scenery and texture plus a scenery.dat file.
I have tried deleteing the carrier group folder after first removeing it from within FS9 but I still get the annoying "Building database etc"
Dave, I checked and the 'Use this scenery directly' is checked.

Pulling what little hair I have left, out.

Well, I'm not sure what I did but I appear to have resolved the problem.
I remembered that about the same time I installed the "Taskforce.zip" I also changed some roadway textures (FS2004roads.zip). Now I'm not sure if it's related but when I replaced the new roadway texture with the originals the problem dissapeared!
What's even stranger is I have now put back the new roadway textures and everything is fine, at least for now.
I appreciate all the help.
Cheers.
