Addon Aircraft

Postby sgaske » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:15 pm

I'm new to the forum, so hello :-)

I have a question regarding addon aircraft in fs2004. I've noticed something while flying high speed aircraft, such as military jets or spaceships or whatever. That is that they all begin to vibrate heavily after reaching a certain speed. I read somewhere a long time ago about the sim only being able to handle a certain speed, or something like that. Is this something that I can change either via the aircraft config files or the FS config file? I'd love to fly at mach 2.5 but all the vibrating gives me a headache. :-( Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards,
Shawn

Hello,

Wondering what your altitude is when this is occurring. Looking up the maximum speed of any aircraft at sea level, for example, shows a much lower value than higher up, due to the density of air being greater the lower you are. A typical fighter cannot exceed about Mach 1.3 at sea level (AFAIK) due to this phenomenon, although at high altitude, the same aircraft may be able to hit Mach 2.0-Mach 2.5. If you've already investigated this area, then it might be something in the aircraft.cfg or .air file that causes the problem. If you haven't downloaded an SR-71 or Concorde, these might be worth a try, to see if they handle adequately at high Mach at altitude.

p.s. - I'm working on a fighter that can handle Mach 2.5 beautifully at FL500, but at low altitude the N2 turbine values limit the speed to about Mach 1.3-1.4, for the same reason as outlined above. Thankfully FS9 seems to accommodate this change in air density fairly well.

Welcome aboard and enjoy your flights!

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply. As it turns out, you're right. Flying slower at lower altitudes yielded much less vibration. I feel silly for not already thinking of this. Thanks for the advice.
