IRL an autolanding capable plane has to perform an autoland every so many normal landings (seem to remember every three landing one has to be automatic) to keep the certification. Of course, to land in automatic you must have the CAT III certified ILS runway to land on too (autoland cannot be performed on a CAT I or II ILS runways).

On the sim, if your plane is autolanding capable, it's only captain discretion if to use it or not. the ILS of FS (but of other sims too) is always CAT III (unless the loc signal is offset, like on some runways) and the rules on a sim are dictated by the sim's owner.

Autolanding is a useful option in real planes and a pleasant thing to do, from time to time, on the sim. But at times is useful, or even necessary even on the simulators. Personally I am proud to be a SIHL (Stick In Hand Lander), but can't help but remember that time I was landing on fumes with a Bae146 in the airport of Bangkok with no visibility at all. Did not have autoland. Did not have a HUD. Did not have visibility. Did not have even fuel to divert on another airport.

Barged on the runway at full landing speed. The visibility was so low I couldn't see the runway lights even when on ground. Never seen such a low visibility before or since in FS. Luckily the gear did not crash even touching ground with me not flaring, and to reach he gate I could use the ATC assistance. It could have ended worse. ::)

No matter how dearly we love SIH landings, sometimes autolanding is a good thing to have, even on a simulator. ;D

There's but one real cure for human stupidity. It's called DEATH.

At the moment mourning the assassination of sarcasm and irony for the good of the "higher".

I am ticked off now. Here's the story:

I thought I would start practicing landing without the help of a guidence system right? So I'm departing from KLAX at runway 7L. Then I was going to circle around and land back on the same runway I took off from. After about 3 tries I got it and I was really excited so I was gonna play the replay and use fraps to capture the whole experience. The damn replay doesn't replay everything I've done!!! It doesn't show me putting the landing gear up. It doesn't show me intiating the flaps at final descent!! GRRRRR!!!!! I guess I could do it again and then this time just have fraps recording at the key moments. Yeah, I think I'll do that.

Thanks for listening to my rant guys lol ;D

You know, I got the same thing with the flaps. Gear works. But even after Touch-Down when I usually invert the flaps, the recorder doesn't record it. >:(

I'm trying to find a way to output the video signal from my gaming PC to my editing PC so that I can capture it that way. Doing it this way, I won't have any frame rate issues and the file size won't be over a GB for a minutes worth of capturing.
