Go here: http://www.acsoft.ch/Flight_Simulator/f ... lator.html and download the best MD11 around with the best full autoland available for free. :)

PS
By the way, in FS the autoland (if available) is controlled by the panel, and all Marciano Airbus panels come with full autoland. Best freeware panel to put on an iFdg airbus, IMO. Marciano panels are freeware as well, but only the panels of the A320 and A330. If you need a panel for the A340, Marciano's panel for this plane is payware.

I don't want to download any of it unless the manuals are in English?

As Pepper said, look better, it's ion both french and english. It's the best MD11 freeware and, barring PMDG's yet to be published MD11, among the best regardless.

I believe that the first aircraft to ever complete an auto-land, and consequently have them fitted fleet wide was the BAC Trident? Correct me if I'm wrong but I have heard this a number of times.... ::)

Both the VC10 and Trident were developing autoland in tandem.  I can't remember the first "in service" autoland. I was present during 2 training flights for BOAC pilots at Heathrow in absolute zero visibility. I have to say there were some concerned looks by the BOAC pilots when the Vickers test crew got out their sandwiches on the first run in and on the second asked help for crossword puzzle clues.

We didn't see the ground until "after" the undercarriage had made contact! Both times right over the rwy centreline. Impressive stuff!!!

The best Autoland i've seen on an FS9 aircraft is the amazing PMDG 747-400. Watch the aircraft yaw round with the rudder to get a centerline landing in a strong crosswind without touching a key, wow! BUT, where's the fun in that?

Well, the best freeware autoland I ever tried was the ACSoft MD11. The Marciano's panels do allow for a discrete autolanding, but don't execute the flare (at least they never flare on my FS9). :)

Been a while now from the last autolanding I did. Ever since having mounted on my FS the pedals for the rudder it's always me to make my planes touch ground again. And if visibility does not allow... here comes the HUD to allow me to bring my planes on the runway in spite of the fog. :P :D

Autoland....huh....give me a Hawker Hurricane in a strong crosswind any day of the week.  8-)

Whats the point of playing the game if you're just going to let the computer do the fun parts for you ? You might as well sell the joystick.

The"fun" is unfortunately in the REAL autoland! Imagine you are in a car in dense fog with "autodrive" then you will get an idea of how it feels!!!!!!

Care to share what car nowadays uses "autodrive" and what this "autodrive" is first? Beside still very experimental attempts in building an automated car drive to be used only on the highways (as no existing nowadays computer could sub for a human hand in a city traffic jam) NO car around, not even the most pricey ones, have an autopilot, let alone one that drives for you when there's fog. Unless we're speaking science fiction, here. :-?

(BTW, a GPS is not an autopilot by definition) :P

Really, there's no way to compare an existing and established aviation procedure with something that doesn't exist nor will exist anytime soon. ;)

Autoland?   Well, I took a Super VC10 (superfluous really as they're all SUPER!!) up in heavy snows this afternoon & sweated during landing trying to keep an eye on speed, height, & direction using the GPS pink line........will we make it ?......this is a game, isn't it?......zoom in on that green glide slope......my God this wind is strong.......When all of a sudden the clouds, etc, parted and there was the runway!  8-)    Yes - I did remember to switch off the No Smoking signs!

I do remember hearing about those autoland trials all those years ago, as I live about 15 miles from Hurn Airport (Bournemouth now)  & it was all the gossip & news at the time, & involved the Trident.....My uncle Norman was in ATC there, also.

Of course "autodrive" doesn't exist!! But my point is to imagine if it did and you get an idea of the sensation of autoland. Even though as you say GPS isn't autoland they are evaluating tests in the UK for non precision approaches using GPS
