Refective water

Postby born_2_fly » Wed Sep 27, 2006 1:29 pm

Hey guys,

I was just wondering. Seeing the screens of FSX with its relective water, is it possible in FS9? I mean, clouds and buildings can be reflected pretty accuratly on mettalic parts of aircraft with the new envmap.bmp incuded in REP, or pretty much anyother envmap.bmp addon, could this not be worked into the water effects? I don't know much about painting of scenery design, but does it have something to do with the alpha channels?

Cheers,

I don't think it is possible in FS9.
Getting refelctions on an object (plane or water) is not just about adding a different texture to it.

What you said about the reflections of the plane is not true. In FS9 the envmap is a fixed picture that is displayed like a reflection on your plane. If you have an envmap for mountains, you will see mountains in your reflections, even if you are in the middle of the ocean.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I really think FS9 is not able of true reflections.

The same applies for the water.
