FS9 not displaying properly

Postby Iwannabeapilot » Fri Jan 06, 2006 5:34 pm

What I mean by "not displaying properly" is that when fs is started, the splashscreen appears, then when the interface is supposed to appear, I am instead greeted by a black screen. FS is running, but the black screen is in the way. I then have to use task manager to get back to the desktop and when i do this, the interface briefly flickers into view. Could this be an issue with display resolution? I have recently updated my graphics drivers, but i have played fs since then and it worked fine. The resolution that fs runs in is 1024x768 and my desktop resolution is 1280x1024. Anyone have any ideas ???

I  don't know if it will help in your case, but deleting the FS9.cfg file seems to work wonders with a lot of issues. Wouldn't hurt to try it, but keep a copy of the file it just in case ;)

Am I right in saying that FS9.cfg is normally found in: My Documents/Flight Simulator Files? If this is correct, then I may have another problem on my hands...

Actually you should find it in two places.

Here is the first...

C:\Documents and Settings\**user name here**\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

and here is the other

C:\Documents and Settings\**user name here**\Recent

Was it deleting the FS9.cfg file and having FS9 rebuild a new one that resolved it?

Glad you got it sorted ;)

Yes, deleting the old CFG worked. Just incase you're interested, here's a part of the old cfg. I can't find anything out of the ordinary here, but then again I'm not very good with these sorts of things ;) ::)

[STARTUP]
DEMO=0
LOADSIM=1
LOADWINDOW=1
SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1
STARTUP_DEMO=
[GRAPHICS]
FULL_SCREEN=1
PERFORMANCE_MODE=0
DEF_PERF_MODE=7
TEXT_SCROLL=1
AUTO_LOD=0
DETAIL_TEXTURE=2
WATER_EFFECTS=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_MAP=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_OBJECTS=1
EFFECTS_QUALITY=1
GROUND_SHADOWS=0
SMOOTH_VIEW=1
IMAGE_SMOOTHING=1
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024
COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1
AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1
LANDING_LIGHTS=1
IMAGE_QUALITY=0
TEXTURE_BLDG=1
TEXTURE_GND=1
TEXTURE_WATER=1
AIRCRAFT_TEXTURE=2
SEE_SELF=1
TEXTURE_QUALITY=3
LOD_TARGET_FPS=28
NUM_LIGHTS=6

Thanks again for the help

I can see the problem - your CFG was missing a very important line.

Here's how it should look:

[STARTUP]
DEMO=0
LOADSIM=1
LOADWINDOW=1
SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1
STARTUP_DEMO=
[GRAPHICS]
FULL_SCREEN=1
PERFORMANCE_MODE=0
DEF_PERF_MODE=7
TEXT_SCROLL=1
AUTO_LOD=0
DETAIL_TEXTURE=2
WATER_EFFECTS=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_MAP=1
TERRAIN_USE_VECTOR_OBJECTS=1
EFFECTS_QUALITY=1
GROUND_SHADOWS=0
SMOOTH_VIEW=1
IMAGE_SMOOTHING=1
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024
COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1
AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1
LANDING_LIGHTS=1
IMAGE_QUALITY=0
TEXTURE_BLDG=1
TEXTURE_GND=1
TEXTURE_WATER=1
AIRCRAFT_TEXTURE=2
SEE_SELF=1
TEXTURE_QUALITY=3
LOD_TARGET_FPS=28
NUM_LIGHTS=6
DON'T DISPLAY A HOOFING GREAT HUGE BLACK SCREEN =1

Hope thats cleared things up a bit.

Cheers,

TSC.
