FS9 Extras

I am interested in trying out 'Gmax' but it is not in my flight sim directory. I did an 'express' install and assume that the 'extras' folder where it resides on disc 1 was not installed under this option. Can I install Gmax now from Disc 1 without doing a complete re-install?

Yes, just double click on the Gmax Icon (looks like a Y), and it will install

Yes, you can. No need to reinstall FS9 in order to install GMax
In fact, I don't think there is even an option to install GMax when installing FS9, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it is safe to install GMax from disk 1 with FS9 already installed.
