Come to think of it, that's probably more of a Cobra!

I managed to almost stop, but it was too hard to control and managing the power for the height is very difficult.

The cobra is more like this, but yes it is true that the manouvre above is very similar:

Well, yes. I wouldn't go about trying it in a Cessna 172 :P It's one of them maneuvers that just looks really good when you get it right. I've seen it done with jet fighters, and seen it done with airliners, mostly jets, otherwise only aerobatic aircraft.



In a real Cessna 172, 30 degrees flaps, 2300 rpms and your going 40 KIAS  ;)

In that place, throttle controls altitude, elevator controls speed.
