Tower view question

Postby chrisco17 » Thu Oct 06, 2005 3:49 am

Is there any way to change tower views?
For example;
When I take off from KOQU and land at KPVD, I don't get the tower view from KPVD, I still get the tower view from KOQU.
Those aren't the only airports that happens with, they are just an example, no matter where I take off from, that is the only tower I can view from without restarting my flight from scratch from the airport I land at.

I had a problem like this before. Do you use Active Camera? Cos I think I was using the trial of it, and I'd been messing around with the views, which then in turn messed up tower view, and it would just stick at one airport.

I was using Active camera, but I'm not anymore.
I wonder if the other problem I have may be related.
Using AFCAD, I had changed the tower view at KOQU.
Now I can't move that tower view anywhere else, even when I delete the current view in AFCAD and create it in another place and save, when I restart FS, it is still in the spot I removed it from.

what you do is open the map. there will be 2 icons, a plane and a tower. move the tower to your desired location. this will change your tower view to that location.

:)ramos

PS: many typos here!

Heya all,

Ramos is correct in that you can click on the tower symbol in the map view and "drag and drop" the tower to any position on the map.  There is also a field on the bottom left where you can adjust the tower view altitude.

When you open the map view the default altitude for the tower is always the current aircraft altitude.  Thus, if you are 33,000 ft. and you slide the tower to the new airport it will make your tower view at the correct location, however, the view will be from 33,000 ft!  Don't forget to look at the airport altitude (listed there next to the airport icon on the map), delete the tower altitude that's currently in the field, and enter the correct tower view altitude (I always enter the airport altitude + 100 to 125 ft.).

There is also a freeware program By Wolfgang Meininghaus called FS2004 Get Tower View which will place your tower view automatically.  FS Camera will also do the same thing.  Both of these programs are available at Flightsim or Avsim.

There are also 2 freeware programs in the utilities section here called FSCamera and FlyBy that replace the tower view with a fly by view, just like Active Camera.

Thank you guys for your replies, but I know how to move the tower view in AFCAD. I did it before.  :)
What I want to do now is move it to another place, but even when I move it and save it (in AFCAD), when I go back to FS, it is still in the location I just moved it from.
I have no problem with, and am perfectly happy with the Walk and Follow camera I use (except no flyby view ) the problem isn't with the camera.  :)
I wonder, if, because I have a saved flight (or a default flight that was saved) with the view that I want to change from, will it will automatically use THAT tower view? Hmmm.
If I clear all of my saved flights with that view, I wonder if I will be able to finally move the tower where I want to.
Does this make any sense to anyone? what do you think?
Thanks again for the help.  :D

Heya Chrisco17,

You're exactly right with the tower view in AFCAD.  When you change the tower view in AFCAD and go to a saved game the tower view won't change.  You have to either create a new flight or change airports, change airports back to the airport that you modified with AFCAD, then save.  After this your tower view changes will take effect.

That's what it was, I deleted all of my saved flights that had that view, (all of them  ;D ), but it wouldn't let me delete the Default flight I made (yes I tried to make a new default flight, but it wouldn't take, it kept reverting to my old one), so I just deleted my fs9.cfg, and that took care of that problem. (Although it took me a little bit of time resetting up FS2004, but it was worth it.  :)
