Stuffed yet again - but problem solved

Postby RollerBall » Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:03 am

Had graphics card grief last week - as posted elsewhere, got hold of a shiney new 9800Pro to replace my old-faithful GeForce3 Ti that I had to go back to after my ebay 9700Pro died. But....the 9800Pro had bad pixels, so back it has gone to itself be replaced by a 6600GT.

Meantime, went back to the GeForce3 - can't use latest drivers because the aircraft window in the FS2004  'select aircraft' screen stays black. So reinstalled the old drivers and started up the game.

Totally stuffed and unflyable. Kept halting and refreshing textures about every 5 seconds.

Tried with the default 9.1 'with CD' exe and it seemed to be OK. Hmmmmmm.

So what I did, I deleted the 'no-CD' exe that I was using, downloaded a fresh one and restarted. Guess what - seems to be fine.

So anyone who still has these kinds of problems, maybe worth giving it a try. No idea how the 'no-CD' fs9.exe could have got damaged - but it obviously had been.

Hey, how did you go about deleting the no-cd file?  That is my next step to figuring out what is wrong with my computer.  I am trying to revert back to the inital setup without re-installing, although that is where Ill probably end up anyway.  Todd

Todd, the fs9.exe 'no-cd' version isn't installed. It just comes in a Zip so you can just delete it from the FS2004 main folder. You should have saved your original file - as something like fs9.old or something like that - in which case you just rename it back to fs9.exe after you have deleted the 'no-cd' version.

Sorry to hear you have problems.

Wotcha mate. Correct as usual.

Hey, are you at no 200 W..... Street with next door neighbour Christine?

See, there's no hiding place  ;)

If you are, when I've got a minute I'll pop a CD with XP Service Pack 2 in the post.
