Saitek,

Yeah... there is no question that those that fly there and are "welcome" there are quite skilled at flying and real world procedures and such.  I am NOT trying to take anything away from that.  More power to that aspect of things.

I just wish there were another flight server option that had the kind of TRAFFIC that VATSIM consistently has....... with just a tad more "relaxed" atmosphere.

Life is already serious enough.... without adding stress.  ;)

I think the problem really is that those that are serious enough about going to the bother of setting things up for flying online looking for a more "real" feeling....and with some human beings involved.... are really mainly and for the most part the "hardcore" folks in this hobby.    That "hardcore" simmer attitude easily leads to the nature of VATSIM.

Than ther is "The Zone" types....... we won't talk about that.   ;D

The number of people in the in between ranks are ..... few, I think.  It's kinda' "all" or "nothing", I am afraid.  You want a lot of traffic and lots of controllers... you gotta of the "obsessive" route......... or the "free for all....no rules..... no realism" route.

I'll keep trying.  :)

best,

....................john

Yes John I know what you mean - I just remembered that the thread was by someone who had thoroughly enjoyed VATSIM and I didn't want to make him feel any differently by my negative comments. :)

MadDriver,

I apologize if my comments took away any feeling of accomplishment or enjoyment that you had in getting on and successfully flying on VATSIM.  Becasue it IS an accomplishment, for sure.

Maybe some day I might "get it together" enough to actually join you on there.  But it is a lot of stuff to master.

best,

John (and others who feel Vatsim is too serious),
Take a look at IVAO!! It might be exactly what you are looking for. Lot of traffic (about the same as Vatsim), lot of controllers (most of the time more then on Vatsim although the skills level may vary a bit more), very relaxed atmosphere without the havoc of the Zone. It offers you real ATC, real world procedures to the level you feel comfortable with and generally good fun. I flew there a lot, moved back to Vatsim as I feel this is a bit more challenging.
As I stated earlier, I am not at all  offended by what people think about the "Vatsim attitude".  Vatsim tries to be as realistic as it gets so it has to be serious - I like that, others don't. No problemo  :D

Cheers

haha, don't worry.  I wasn't taking any offense.  I realize that there are a lot of people out there who enjoy flying around without having to pay attention to what they are actually doing.  When I started my RL pilot training, that was the first thing that hit me.  You have to always be looking around, always aware... and it's definately not like that in the FS.  VATSIM provides that realistic feature.  But there are also a lot of people out there who try to get the realism as high as it can go (me), and VATSIM is just another network that allows that.  It all depends what you want to get out of the simulator.

I flew Vatsim for awhile.
Quit when controller didnt knew what Block altitude was....  ::)

They try to be real as it gets, but you can be just as "real" on IVAO.
