manual start 747?

is it possible to manually start the default 747?  Pressing the starters doesn't do anything, and all it syas in the checklist is "Press shift-e for autostart(as real as it gets my @$$ ).

Ctrl + e followed by 1,2,3, and then 4 for each engine.

If you want to manually start the default 747 open the throttle subpanel, then on the overhead click on the starter of engline 4 (starting with engine 4 like for real), when the N1 on the main panel's instruments goes up to about 23 click on the (till then obviously open) fuel cut lever of engine 4.

It always worked for me.

What ashaman said, except not N1, N2-if you wait for N1 to spin up to 23, you'll be there a looooooooong time.  And 21s probably a bit better.

To make it even more realistic, throttle up each engine when you start it-'e+4' (tap e, then quickly tap 4-DO NOT hold down e) will select only engine #4, and just crack it a bit.  e+1+2+3+4 in quick succession should get you back control of all the throttles-if it doesn't, just reload the aircraft.  Make sure to idle them after start to

Ever since I've changed the flight dynamycs of various default planes, making them behave more like the planes they are supposed to simulate (let's leave the panels' horrible mocking aside, in the 747 and in the 777 more than anywhere else, only soultion there is to install better ones), in the 747 a N1 of 25 and even higher comes to me pretty fast while I start up the engines.

Is this value of N1 I'm having correct? Is it not? I don't know. Still this discrepancy is what made me suggest it.

Anyway, as it seems I've forgot the behaviour of the original flight dynamycs, Beefhole it's probably correct. Try to close the fuel cut lever at about 20 of N1. Should work all the same.

ashaman, I'm telling you, it's N2 you start engines by-N1 will be at about 3 (give or take) when N2 is at 21.

Sorry, you're right. I've only now wised up to a recurring error of typing.

Please, where before I wrote about N1 put an imaginary dot after the first number (2.3 instead of 23, 2.0 instead of 20).

I'm really sorry, I don't know where my mind was when I was writing. :-/

Ahh, I see. Yeah, 2.3 is about right... except that the fuel lines are charged based on the N2 %, not the N1-add fuel at about 21-22% N2

Well, yes but I (like the greater majoriy of people on earth) have my own habits. And they make me watch the N1.

They (the habits) might be unortodox, but work fine or I'll have never taken them as habits in the first place.

If it works fine and causes no problem, then it's not a problem. - one of my mottos.
