Me want mesh!

Postby Dan » Tue Aug 09, 2005 10:36 am

Right... I have appreciated the sight seeing value of the VFR Photographic scenery, but just can't live with seeing cliffs half a mile back from the coast!

So, I need a fantastic Wales and South West terrain mesh, and just for once Im prepared to pay for it!

ATM I'm thinking of VFR Terrain form Just Flight - Anything better?
Thanks all!

As I said, I have already got that and I agree, it is very good.

I want the hills to wrap it over, so that they work together so to speak!

Get the FSGenesis stuff fot that area..... if there is any.

Or get the freeware one that is located here in the "mesh" downloads.

Aye, the SRTM mesh sets hosted here on SimV haven't done me wrong!  I have them for Alaska and Hawaii, and they should have some for your area!

Heya Dan,

I agree with John and DJ Zephyr that the SRTM mesh files available here on SimV are excellent.

Ok, as I said I have tried the Freeware on SimV and it juts isn't detailed enough!
Game.net says:

The terrain mesh is generated from the most accurate countrywide data available, and is provided at the maximum level of detail that Microsoft Flight Simulator can display (c. 19m in FS2002 and c. 38m in FS2004*).

*A limitation in the code of FS2004 has reduced the maximum terrain mesh to half that of FS2002.

I believe that by updating to FS9.1 (Which I have on the PC Pilot CD) I can get around that and back to the 19m, yeah?

So it appears to be between 'VFR Terrain'

VFR Terrain also has updated phototextures, so that you wont have cliffs etc that look like the textures beenstretched, you will have a new texture for each cliff... 8)
