Northern Lights

I believe I heard somewhere that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis and such) can be seen in certain situations.  I figure they show up in Alaska at night, but I still haven't seen em!  Do they only show up in specific seasons?  Or specific places?  Any tips are welcome, thx!

Far as I know they're fairly random - you see them frequently in northern latitudes. I've made the run along the Aleutians a few times in a DC-3 and I've seen them virtually every flight.

It's funny though - they seem to be part of FS9's cloud system; 'cause they almost always appear at cloud level - funny as heck to fly above the Lights! ;D

They almost always show when I use the real weather (ASV or FSMetar, I try not to use the primitive contraption supplied with FS9) and I never see them when I don't.

This makes me think Staiduk is correct in saying they're tied to the clouds in some way, though I never overflew them.

Flew from Ankorage to Seattle last night and at about 11500ft  the lights appeared. It was very nice.

Flew over Sweden recently and they suddenly appeared.
A really nice view !

random, Ha! goes within proximity of the poles (but not where you get sucked in) and they're out almost every night. every time i flight night bush flying, i always catch them

the sucked into the poles thing, it's really freaky, the ground moves faster and faster. reason is because msft designed the earth a a cylinder as far as we know.

anyway, just go north and look...

Saw them while I was flying from CYHZ to Some place in greenland once at night.  That was back in the winter time...

They also show up in the south (Aurora Australis). This is a bad time however to see the northern lights since there's so much more daylight up there. Set your time of year to December or such and you'll have a better chance.
