Taxi

Postby rich1241 » Sun Aug 07, 2005 8:09 am

Hiya Everyone,

When i taxi, i turn my joystick to the left or the right. This makes the spoliers go up or down and makes taxing rather a bumpy ride.

What is the easiest (and safest  :)) way to taxi?

Would it be better to buy a joystick with a twist grip handle, would this then make the aircraft taxi correctly?

In real life though, the pilots don't use the rudder or spoilers to taxi - can this be true in flight sim?

Many thanks,
Richard.

Try pressing F11 and F12 for individual braking..
Cant remember if that is the correct key for both.. try looking in your settings..

Basically, what Andy said in a nutshell....

Use the RUDDER to steer on the ground! ;D

Ailerons have absolutely no effect on the plane when it's on the ground, unless winds are REALLY high.  Try turning off the option to automatically coordinate the ailerons and rudder(I believe it's "autorudder" in realism menu"), and youll see what I mean. ;)

So to taxi on the ground, i should turn off autorudder and use the numbers 1 and 2 on the keypad - with numlock off?

Is this correct?

Thanks - Richard.

I did kinda say that..  :P ;)

But it was a pretty roundabout way to do it ;)

rich, you dont have to turn off autorudder, but if you did it would show how turning the ailerons on the ground does nothing to move the plane.

My suggestion would be to, yes, get a new joystick with a twist handle.  Until that time, yup, taxi with numlock off :)

rich1241,

A twist grip joystick would add that extra axis for control.

'Auto rudder ' does 2 things in the sim.

It automatically provides coordinated turns, keeping the 'bubble' centered.

For those who dont have a joystick/pedal axis to assign to the rudder, selecting autorudder allows you to steer with the ailerons while taxiing.
