I have a Mirage that lights up its afterburners when they do come on.

No, I meant when the real afterburner is fired up that the extra effects are triggered.

I eventually found an Afterburner Gauge (it is invisible) which does this. It detects the afterburner state and triggers some Light values (value light.9 in aircraft.cfg) so you can add effects to that light value and thus have them show up when AB is on.

That's what I have done.

You find that there are plenty of XML gauges out there that have various timings. If you find a "Timing" that you like, you can use that XML gauge to display various effects of yours by editing the panel.cfg and acft.cfg files of your acft.

I don't like the standard "I" key for anything other than some basic stuff on some acft. Most of my acft. I have barrowed timed XML gauges to set up all the effects, ABs, engine smoke, contrails etc. to display in a manner much closer to realism.

Fun to tinker with that stuff and see what you can do.

Heya PeterV,

If you want a generic effects set for all military aircraft you may want to check out the excellent Military-Package v01.2 Effects and XML-Gauges for FS9 and FS-2002 military-Jets By Toshikazu-Shimizu (Water-Toshi).

This package includes everything you need.  Download the milpac012.zip file here:

http://ww71.tiki.ne.jp/~water-t/milpac012.zip

If you need any assistance in setting these files up then IM me here at SimV and I'll be happy to help out.
