Anywhere, just get online with some friends, turn crash detection off (if you want close formations) and away you go ;)

depends on what aircraft you use, and what type of internet connection everyone is using..;)

Sorry Andy... but that is not true.  But I have a high speed (bidirectional) DSL connection so I am spoiled.

I also have a high speed broadband connection, and I've flown with other people who have the same.  FS is by nature laggy in multiplayer.  

If you want to do tight formations, check out Lomac.  The multiplayer is EXPONENTIALLY better than FS.
