shift+e+3 never works for anything, but I have had the problem of shift+e+2 not working. Try reloading the aircraft/restarting the game (I know you've tried this, try it again)
For starters not all a/c have 2nd and 3rd exits....

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
This bugged me for a long time till I came up with another answer. Assign extra buttons on my joystick to the "shift-E" and "select 2" options. Then you just hit the select 2 first and holdit while you hit the shift-e button. Works great for me Note: set the sliders as shown or it may not work correctly!
