fs2006 choppers

Postby timewaster » Tue Mar 29, 2005 7:16 pm

I've been hoping in fs2006 that maybe they would make the Dynamics of the choppers to be better. When i try flying the bell microsoft chopper i am discraised. I've seen choppers land and they dont land as hard as they do in the flight sim. There are some choppers that fly better than others but even at that. i have also noticed
that there must be a affect because there are less aircraft then choppers and alot more payware and freeware airplanes.

There is nothing wrong with the FS helicopter dynamics. They are quite realistic and have been since it began in FS98. That is why they seem so difficult to control.

You must understand, a helicopter CANNOT be flown like a Cessna. They require much more precise control. In the real world, a qualified helicopter pilot makes it look easy because he/she has learned how to control it.

Anyone can learn to fly one. All it takes is practise. The most important thing to learn is to hover. The rest is relatively easy.

Visit: http://members.shaw.ca/hoversafe/Hoversafe.htm where you will find a set of self-teaching lessons, which, if followed properly, will help you learn to control it.

I have flown an R44 in real life and i would say that the flight dynamics were in general quite easily comparible, BUT in real life they seem much easier to fly for some reason, my theory is that it is easier to judge distances etc.

Has anyone else noticed on some non default choppers that they are kinda impossible to fly. Some of mine are completely out of control i.e the keep trying to turn left to the point where you can not control the chopper anymore and it just spiral to the ground :-[.

With some practice, I've actually become quite proficient in the FS helos.  Every once in a while I get in a rotorhead mood and I'll go through a phase where they're all I fly.

Stick with it.  They're not easy, but nothing worth attaining ever is.
Great edit, Bob.

Another reason is that in Choppers, you are the pilot, in the pilots seat. You get a much wider view of scenery and it's meant to be a completely different experience when judging distances and speeds etc. FS helicopters, I guess, are modelled well but its not the same experience because of the limited view and no "feel' for what the heli is doing.
