747-400 help

What is the clime rate for a 747-400 ? I have been doing it at 1800 but I think it should clime less than that like 1200 .

I just took off from KSEA in the default 747, fully loaded and made it to 12,000 feet in 4 minutes and 17 seconds.  That's a  rate of climb of close to 4000 fpm.

Now, I did ignore the 250 kt speed limit and ran it at nearly full throttle.  In fact I got an overspeed warning a few times and had to throttle back to slow down.

Brown, whenever you start with a new aeroplane it's well worthwhile to look up the Flight Notes' on it in the FS2004 Learning Centre.

There's a lot of good gen under 'Aircraft/Kneeboard', too - call up 'Checklist' and 'References'.

That's how most of us learned  :)  And the advantage is, you can call the stuff up while you're flying, and sort things out without spoiling your trip.

Yeah, but they don't give climb rates.  Standard in a fully loaded is, I'd suspect, roughly 2400 FPM (give or take guys, give or take), steadily taking it down above, I dunno, maybe FL200 down to about 1000 FPM above FL300.  I haven't flown the 744 in a while, so blah.

On takeoffs I have a lot of trouble getting the 747 off the ground probably has to do with fuel levels but it would not clime with full tank.

If you use proper settings, it will.  I have 140+ virtual hours (of course) of trans-pacific flights in the 744, so naturally I'm carrying full fuel.  I've never had serious problems climbing to 410.  You MUST reduce the climb profile at higher altitudes, this is vry important-and climb her at the proper speed, which I believe is something like 310 KIAS.

Economy climb is around 283kts/0.744 (with a somewhat low CI around 20)

So just adjust the VS so it corresponds to those speeds. When mach number becomes greater than IAS, do the changeover from KIAS to Mach  :)
Interesting enough, econ cruise is the same value as the climb speeds  8)

I like to fly the PSS 744 under FS-2002.  I also have the PSS 777.  The 777 is more challenging to get off the ground heavy than the 744.  I think because it's close to the 744's weight but trying on only 2 engines.  But, fortunatly PSS has all the POH info for both planes and I follow all the ref speeds or else I get lazy and let the FMC do most of the climb schedule.
