Repainting/Abacus

Postby jakob » Sun Mar 06, 2005 8:58 am

Hello, Starting to get into repainting and I see that Abacus has repainting software you can purchase. Anyone has this? Is it easy to use? I looking for something that is simple. Thank you, jakob

I think you mean FS Repaint. I never got round to trying myself but Felix used to speak highly of it. There was a free trial version available for download. If this is still the case you could check it out for yourself. I've heard that it won't work on some aircraft. I don't know the details.

PS. Look here. http://www.abacuspub.com/fsd/catalog/s531.htm

I should forget it if I were you, take Hagars suggestion and get the free trial (you cant save any work).
When I first got into repainting I found it quite dificult and was tempted to buy FSRepaint myself.
However the paint program is pretty useless and you will need a copy of a decent image editing software like photoshop or paintshop pro or similar, most will do the functions you will need.
Once you get the hang of it you will find FSRepaint a waste of time and its only use is for a quick reference to find which part of the texture is which.
Save your money and download DXTBmap for free and spend a few hours learning, you will get plenty of help on the repainting forums here.
And you will soon see how easy it is.

I got the trial version but had trouble with that. It keeps crashing Windows and producing Acces Violation Faults whenever I try to load a texture for painting. When I emailed Abacus about this they said that the trial version was a little buggy but if I would buy the full (registered) version then it should work just fine. Of course they don't offer a "money back" refund.  ::)

You can guess what my answer was. If I can't get the trial version to work I'm sure as H@!! not buying the registered version.

So I'm back to the old method of using a graphic editor and trying it out in the sim. Seems this is what most of the pro and good freeware repainters use so it must be good enough.
