Heya Stuart,

As I see it you can solve this problem one of three ways:

1.)  Of course first check and make sure you are running the latest sound card drivers on your PC.

2.)  Go into the XF-108 folder and rename the Sound folder to something like OldSound.  Then download the Jet Fighter Sound Pack by Aaron R. Swindle here:

http://www.simviation.com/fssounds.htm

Unzip this into a new Sound folder in your XF-108 directory.  As an alternative you can rename the Sound folder as mentioned above and simply Copy/Paste another jet fighter sound folder into your XF-108 directory if you already have a jet fighter sound set that works fine.  Later, if all is well, you can simply delete the Old Sound folder from the XF-108 directory.

3.)  It's possible that the author placed a gauge or other sound file from an older version of Flight Simulator.  Sometimes these older sound files can mess up on newer machines.  To avoid this, locate your FS9.cfg file (by default it's usually in the C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Name Here]\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 folder).  First make a backup of the original FS9.cfg file.  Then open the FS9.cfg file using MS Notepad or other text editor and Copy/Paste the following lines:

[OldModules]
FSSound.dll=1

It doesn't matter where you add these lines in the FS9.cfg text.  Paste them at the very end.  That's OK.  Save, Exit the FS9.cfg, and then startup FS 2004.

You should be all setup and ready to Rock and Roll!
