Downloading Aircraft

Postby Brown » Sat Feb 26, 2005 8:58 pm

I have been trying to download a aircraft from Merdian Virtual Airlines but I can't get it to show up on fs9 the aircraft is here http://www.flymeridian.com/downloads/2004ac.shtml
DHC-8-100

It gives me a lot of pictures once I unzip it what should I do with these folders should I make a new folder and paste it into my aircraft folder or should I paste them in there seperately ?

i'm sorry, but if i'm correct, your saying the creator put all the files into one folder, without regard for folders.

OR

you are not sure what the folders do or wha their for.

someone with experience of this will be coming along soon

Looking at the download site this is a texture only download, meaning you must have the original aircraft installed.

The 'picture' files you have are placed in a new texture.x folder within the original aircraft's folder.

You then have to create a new [fltsim.x] section in the 'aircraft.cfg' to configure the new 'paint'.

If you need help with this process we'll be glad to help.

Cheers,
Dave

Note: you often see these undocumented downloads from VA sites, as they expect their members are experienced in such matters.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

First things first,

Have you got the DHC-8-100 aircraft from Premier Aircraft Design?
The reason I ask is, the download from Meridian is textures only, therefore you would need the base model first.

If not you can get it at http://www.premaircraft.com/fs24dhc8/index.html
It's the one at the top.

Read the "Readme_first.txt" if you're not sure about how to install it.

Once that's done, let us know and someone will tell you how to add the Meridian textures.

All the best mate,

Carl

That particular ad shows as textures only. IOW it is the repaint textures for a particular aircraft. You need to have the original aircraft first, in this case a DHC-8-100 by Premier Aircraft Design. Then you would add the above textures (repaint) to make it into the Meridian livery. That's why when you opened the file it only contains textures (the repaint "skins") and an aircraft.cfg file. The aircraft.cfg in this download contains a template that you would paste into the original planes aircraft.cfg to add this livery. See the toots here at SimV for "FS Aircraft Installation" and "Adding Textures Only to an Existing Aircraft" for details.
