Photo-realistic scenery

Postby Delta_ » Sun Feb 27, 2005 6:15 am

I've been looking at various freeware pakages of photo-realistic scenery and have 3 questions:

Is photo-realistic scenery blurry up close or is it better than FS9 stock scenery?

Is it worth while upgrading to photo-realistic scenery?

Could anyone recommend any packages?

Thanks for your help!  ;)

I cant speak for Freeware as I have the justflight VFR Photographic scenery for UK.

However if you are flying VFR then it is a must have. If you combine it with the FSTerrain software its quite awesome, particularly in hilly areas.

Of course your system needs to be pretty hi spec to handle it all. It tends to be blurry below about 1500'

If you want to fly VFR though you really need some scenery add ons as well, most of which work well with the VFR scenery, and now you can get autogen trees etc to go on top of the photoscenery which all adds to the realism (these are freeware).

There are no lights though at night which is a bit weird but you can disable it for night flights anyway.

So in my opinion Yes upgrade, Ive heard some good things about the freeware stuff too.

The photo-realistic scenery that I had for the SE of england was very blurry close up.  The manufacturers recommend flying above 2000 feet to appreciate the benefits.  I would recommend not purchasing it as you have no autogen and therefore no trees and it's incredibly expensive.

But as said above Will there are freeware files out there to add autogens to the UK VFR scenery!

My only gripe with the VFR scenery is it requires different settings in your FS9.cfg to get the best out of it and because the textures are a lot bigger they can take a while to load too.

The other downside is you cannot whiz down vallies in fast jets as your PC physically cannot load the textures fast enough, well mine cant and I have a pretty good spec!

If you plan on doing GA VFR flying though it is awsome.  You can even see airfields on the ground that aren't in the sim, i.e. Daedlus down on the South coast where I live.

Is it worth it I cant decide I like how it looks etc but just get annoyed with the few little niggles.
