Postby Jimbo » Tue Feb 22, 2005 12:13 pm

im quite happy with the way i fly on fs9, with the 737 that is, but im a novice. :o
;D
But i only really enjoy smaller flying paths such as dublin-uk, u no what i mean. Now somebody must also like flyin small routes, can anyone give a me a good route, not in england, mainly completely different, which is brill to fly. ???

might sound demanding, but i certainly dont have enough time to fly a 12 hour flight!!! :D ;) ;D

thanks, jimbo

Hmm...the first 737-sized route that comes to mind is Dallas-Ft. Worth International to G Bush Intercontinental in Texas, US.
When planning, KDFW - KIAH. Reason it's the first thing I think of is I flew it a great deal back when.
Could try Chicago-New York
Atlanta-Miami
Jackson, MS - Atlanta
San Francisco - San Diego
San Francisco - Seattle
Los Angeles - Las Vegas
Las Vegas - Denver
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

La Guardia (KLGA) to Boston (KBOS) is a really enjoyable route, and what makes it even better is the fact that there is awesome freeware scenery for both airports over at avsim. Check it out!

If I only have a half hour to an hour or so to kill, I'll take a 737 from KALB to KEWR.  Nice trip down the river. ;)
Great edit, Bob.

Jimbo, try hopping between the capital cities in Europe.
I'm halfway through my "tour", currently in Warsaw about to head south to the Balkans via Prague & Vienna.
Longest leg Rekjavik - Edinburgh 2hrs (also the 1st)
Shortest Belfast - Dublin 20mins.
All done in Default 737, but will be using "The 737 experience" for the next few legs.

Try the following:
Get an ATLAS of the area you want to fly in as an example I use the UNITED STATES. I then pick a STATE and a city then proceed to jump from city to city within that state, or go to the next STATE you can use what ever aircraft you like I will switch between the single engine aircraft to the bigger jets depending on the runways. This way allows you to make short moderate or lenghty hops. It is also a good way to go cross country and even across the world. If you pick the right places the flight across the big pond is not that long. But you will miss out on a lot of islands this way including HAWAI and AUSTRAILLA to mention a few.

I'm very much like you actually Jimbo, I'm quite glad I've stumbled accross this thread.

I'll be sure to check out some of these US routes.

Any other good flight plans that spring to mind in South America/Africa/Asia/Oceania etc?  ;D

I just downloaded the scenery and did this flight, it is very enjoyable. It took me about 45 minutes all together (From parking to parking) in a Delta 737. I managed to take 88 screenshots along the way! I may post some up later.  ;D

For flights like you wish for its also a good idea to check the schedules of different airlines and go hub to hub.  Being a PA resident I have a number of USAirways liveried planes.  The KPHL-KPIT route is a favorite. Plus, as I reside near Harrisburg, PA I have also researched a number of the scheduled runs for KMDT.  A lot of the shorter flights in and out of KMDT require a CRJ, EMB xxx or a Dash-8 for the most realism. I use the Fanda Dash-8 for a lot of them but sometimes I use the 737 NG for what would normally be a CRJ run. Other medium or short in the US Northeast would be.
KMDT-Charlotte
KPHL-KBOS
KDCA, Dulles, or KBWI-KATL
KLGA-KMIA
KPHL-KORD
KPIT-KORD
KMDT-KORD

For me,Most USAirways flights out of Harrisburg to Chicago always include a stop in Pittsburg with continueing service to O'hare.

There's lots, just research a little.  Most of your airlines have their routes posted online.  VA's are also a good source for realistic routes.

Actualy since I joined the FTG VA group, there's tons of "real world" flights you can choose from the real airlines' timetables. Of course there are rules and you have to enter(and fly!) valid speeds and elevations etc in the pilot report, but I found more often than not I'm flying 1 to 2.5 hr flights the most, mostly around the U.S. Though there are plenty around Europe though it seems they love their Airbuses 31x's more than 737's. The general range of the 737 isn't really for flights much longer than 4 hrs anyways. with a full passenger load. With PMDG737-600/700/800/900 it's a blast along with a few other addons. FTG VA is easy to join and maintain. No need for online play or extra dues except pilot reports which are scrutinized by the "captains" now and then.

http://www.cpavirtual.org/VirtualATP.asp   -  also a bunch of affiliated airlines to join, you join one for your id, then can make any flight of any affiliated VA or an allowed airline within some guidelines.

jimbo, you could do worse than to do the ready-made 'European Airline Pilot' scenario in FS9.  Heathrow-Paris-Milan-Venice-Palermo-Luqa (Malta) and back to Heathrow.  Varied weather, pretty good scenery, and the IFR flights are all in the one-two hour range.
