adding damage to aircraft

Postby gbwnab » Fri Feb 18, 2005 11:45 pm

Hello, fist time here...

can anyone offer suggestions on how to get the plane damage to appear?  I've added several aircraft in the past with minimal problems...adding them to the "aircraft" folder.  I had been adding the new folder for :damage" under the same folder, I'm guessing that is incorrect??  Please be precise with your instructions, I'm brand new to the simulator.

All help greatly appreciated!

Hi
Just add

visual_damage=1

to each of the [fltsim.#] sections in the aircraft.cfg
also the aircraft model(mdl) will have to have braking parts for it to work (not all models do) in that case you will just get fire and smoke

cheers

Mav, thanks for the reply.

you'll have to slow that down for me though...its all new to me...baby steps...

are you telling me to go to flight sim, and look in the airplanes folder?  then I'm to look in each specific planes cfg?  If I click in the cfg, it says "no preview"??  I guess I can try opening it up with something else?

Help....

.cfg files are just text files...they can be opened in Notepad.

Just remember to "Save As" instead of just using "Save"..."Save" will write a text file instead of keeping the .cfg file type.

I've made so many .cfg changes that I've got .cfg files set to open in Notepad by default. :)

ok, so right at the top here, it says [fltsim.1]

is this where I have to add the visual_damage=1 ??

so now it will look like...   [fltsim.1]visual_damage=1 ??

and I have to do that for ALL the [fltsim.#'s]??

I actually tried to save as, yet it still saved it as a text file, right beside the original .cfg?  Am I supposed to save it in the same spot?

thanks again...

Sorry, missed the part where I should have told you to save over the original .cfg. My bad. :)

Add the new section to each of the Flightsim sections, each has it's own model section. It's rare, but sometimes different variants use slightly different models. Put the new section at the bottom on a new line after the last line listed.

Hi gbwnab,

first of all welcome to SimViation. What you need to do is the following thing. Add the line as shown below to the aircraft.cfg of you chosen aircraft. It might already be there. Sometimes you only have to change the present 0 into 1. Do so in all [fltsim. #] sections that are there. If you use Notepad you just click "Save..." to save your changes.

There's a great little program by Grant Bovee called "CrashFX".  It's payware, but it's VERY cheap.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.
