Changing radio frequencies?

Postby iwannaflySC » Thu Dec 30, 2004 10:55 pm

Hey folks:

Is there a way to change the frequency that FS assigns to different things at an airport?

This is what happened: I was flying from Brisbane to Pt. Moresby (Papua New Guineau) and soon after take-off, ATC handed me to Brisbane Control on 119.80.  The only thing is, 119.80 also happens to be the frequency for the ATIS at the Maroochy/Sun Coast airport nearby (YBMC).  As soon as I was within range, ATIS started playing continuosly.  I was unable to respond to ATC requests, because of the ATIS playing, and eventually, not getting any acknowledgements, ATC cancelled my IFR.  I flew on till I was out of range of the ATIS, and then filed an new IFR plan with Brisbane Control. While it lasted, it was most infuriating -- and the first time I'd encountered this on fs9.

Any similar experiences? Anyway to change the ATIS frequency for this airport so it doesn't interfere? I probably won't be flying back in that area in a while ... but still, it'd be good to know! :)

I had that same problem last week flying to Casablanca in Morocco. While on approach ATIS started to give its information. Not able to respond my IFR was also cancelled. >:(

Nope. Didn't have had the time yet to figure out what it was or how to prevent it from happening again.

I think you can use AFCAD to change the frequencies.  ;D

In real life you use your comm 2 radio to listen to the ATIS while still on the approach/tower frequency with your comm 1, maybe you should try that.

Use AFCAD to change radio frequencies for an airport. Open AFCAD , select your airport, open "Lists", select "Comm Frequencies" and change them . Note that FS9 only seems to accept frequencies between about 100 and 139 and the decimal points seem to all end 25, 50, 75. Also choose one that is not already allocated otherwise you get the other ATC breaking in.

That works fine as long as the ATIS and approach/tower frequencies are different, but when the ATIS and the approach/tower frequencies are the same the ATIS will override the approach/tower so one of the frequencies needs to be changed. I've had this happen before too, and used AFCAD to change one of the frequencies
