Automatic weather report

Postby sir_crashalot » Sun Dec 26, 2004 1:41 pm

Hi guys,

First of all Merry Christmas to all of you.

I have a small problem in FS9. I am flying a Fokker 100 around the world and I just left Europe behind me. I am flying from Lisbon (Portugal) to Casablanca (Morocco). I am inbound for ILS on rwy 35 at an airport called Mohammed V. All of a sudden an automatic weather report system starts to send messages and it cannot be stopped. It is impossible for me to respond to ATC so my IFR flight is being cancelled. No mather what I try this thing keeps coming up. It is the first airport I try to land on that has this system. And I have seen a lot of them already.

My questions: Is it possible to disable this system and if not, are there more airports with this system?

Many thanks in advance,

Happy simming 2005 :)

Hmmmmmm I really dont understand what you mean by "automatic weather report system" ???

Do you mean real weather ???

I know if you are flying using real weather, and you get disconnected from the internet it will close FS2004, and you will get an error message

No, what I mean is a voice system that tells the wind direction, dew point, etc. at the same frequency as ATC. So if you want to respond to ATC telling you to descent or to turn it is not possible to do so. You will hear that BEEP like you hear when you respond when another aircraft is talking to ATC.

Oh okay, you must mean the ATIS report.....Hmmmm I have never had that problem, maybe someone else can point you in the direction of a fix for the problem  ;D

Crashasmurf, I know you've tried "everything", but that ATIS report is coming in on the comm radio you have tuned to the ATIS freq for that airport. It shouldn't be the same freq as ATC- check that out. You might get that squelch "beep" when you transmit because you're set up to transmit on the radio you have tuned to receive ATIS (??) Turn it off , change the freq,or just switch away from that radio (most aircraft have a "listen" or "voice" select: "com1", "com2", or "both"), and it should go away. You might also be monitoring an AWOS report via the voice channel on a VOR... either way, try shutting off all comm except the one you're using to talk to ATC. It's a good idea, though, to listen to at least one cycle of the ATIS, because it will give you winds, temps, and local altimeter setting, and you have to tell the tower (or Approach Control) that you have "Information (letter of alphabet)" to confirm you listened to it (every hour, the ATIS info is assigned a different letter of the alphabet as it's updated). The ATIS frequency should be listed in the airport info found if you click on the airport in the "Map" page. If you're really hearing ATIS on the Approach frequency or Tower frequency, I don't know what to tell you... I'm going to look into this myself- good luck, meanwhile.

Well, I just went to that airport, and there isn't even an ATIS freq listed. In fact, they give you two freqs for Tower, when one is actually Ground.  I didn't hear it on either of those, nor the Approach freq.Weird. Was the ATIS info you heard definitely for that airport (the transmission should begin with the name of the airport)? Perhaps you were monitoring the ATIS for some other field nearby...

Rottydaddy, thanks for your responce. I know it is not the ATIS. It's something else. ATIS comes on when you push a button. This starts by it's self. Maybe it one of the many glitches in FS  ::)

Sometimes ATIS will come on all by itself, if you have an ATIS frequency tuned  in your COM radio, and you get close enough to the airport to pick up the ATIS info, then it will come on all by itself

I had this problem once, ATIS came on whilst taxxing, not sure if I selected it accidentally or not. However it came on, then I couldn't change frequency either just couldn't get rid of it. At the same time AI traffic went a little mad, had 1 747 holding on Runway threshold, I was waiting for him to depart but instead another 747 came thru me and parked right inside the other one. Then another aircraft did the same thing I had 3 heavies all inside each other. I could do nothing about it I had to stop the game and reboot, it never happened again and I have no idea what caused it, sorry I can't be anymore help.

Had this happen before. I had com2 tuned to an ATIS and I had selected all sorts on the audio panel. The Nav 1 and 2 were beeping and all of a sudden out of the blue came the ATIS. I had deselected the text and I had no idea who's ATIS it was. Took me a while to realise it was on com2. Luckily it was a VFR flight. ::)

Nope... it's a signal picked up by one of your comm. radios, or possibly an AWOS signal broadcast from a VOR being picked up by your nav radio. Try making sure you're only monitoring the Approach or whatever frequency and nothing else (of course keep your nav radio on for the VOR, just make sure you're not listening to it [as you would when you check the Morse Code ID for the station]). If it still does it, then I'd say: glitch.

Yea, it's definitely ATIS you're talking about, sounds to me like MS may have accidentally made overlapping freqs... listen to the beginning of the ATIS and it should tell you what airport it is coming from, then we can look into it further.
