Why does ALT button clear stutter?

Hi

I have been working to stop a severe stutter and have made lots of changes that have worked (adjusted Graphics latency, drivers, various recommended config tweaks).

Now in 2d view all is super smooth, until I cycle through the different views with the 's' key. Returning to 2d panel view its all stuttery again, and remains that way till I press the alt button to call up the tool bar. When I resume flying it's nice and smooth again.

Anyone know why that is

maybe I'm clearing a scenery cache, or sound cache or somthing by pressing alt?

It just sounds like an fs-ism to me, you'd be amazed at the weird things the game does like that.
