You do not need to go north to see the effects of icing.
All you have to do is to set the weather where you are at and you can create icing conditions. But like codered said you will not see any ice on the wings. But it will effect propeller driven aircraft and airspeed indicators. It is also possable that ice can cover the suction hoels on the outside of the aircraft and cause all kinds of instruments to malfunction.
