Icing

I was wondering if Icing was ever part of FS2004?  Ive flown to high altitudes, cold and bad weather with Anti-Ice and any form of De-ice off, and have yet to notice any difference to my flight characteristics... controls fine, no signs of clogging in my pitot and static systems.  

Now I even noticed that some of the default planes have anti-ice/deice functions, but does ice actually form on the aircraft in FS2004?

I don't believe that there is a way to physically see any ice on the wings of aircraft in FS, however I have def. had the effects of icing, where when flying a small 150 I forget carb heat, and it all ices up and my engine dies...

or when I'm flying a caravan in nasty weather with de-ice off I tend to get very bad conditions where the aircraft will not stay in the air...

what are your realism settings for the aircraft set at?

perhaps setting it higher would do the trick? I don't know any other way..

I've had pilot freezing before (not visibly) but the gauges began giving false indications.  Turning on the pilot heat did clear the condition.  This was in a far north flight in Canada.

I have had icing effects a few times but ice just wont form, it takes the right conditions, and if you go into advanced WX options you can set icing in there somewhere. Or set the dew point high, freezing temps, and clouds auta do the trick  8)

I get icing with real weather once in a while, once my pitot tube iced up while cruising through a thunderstorm in default Cessna 182S, the pitot heat switch did resolve the problem luckily (just in time for an electrical system failure ).

I set my realism all the way up... hmm... maybe i just need to fly farther up north with no heat to see it  :P

I think you meant Pitot Tube.

I'd hate to see my pilot freeze up........... TURN UP THE HEAT!

If you are in the clouds or very close to them and the temperature is just right, you will build up icing characteristics.  I have had pitot tubes freeze, carburetor icing, poor engine performance, etc.  Icing is in FS9, but it is something that is not visible.

You do not need to go north to see the effects of icing.
All you have to do is to set the weather where you are at and you can create icing conditions. But like codered said you will not see any ice on the wings. But it will effect propeller driven aircraft and airspeed indicators. It is also possable that ice can cover the suction hoels on the outside of the aircraft and cause all kinds of instruments to malfunction.

I did the same, set my realism all the way up and tried with and without anti-icing.  No difference I could see, shouldn't I lose instruments and performance?

Any sage wisdom on this?
