Light Problems

Postby Ijineda » Wed Nov 03, 2004 11:18 am

All the lights seem to be sized way too big...when near, it looks fine but from far away it looks like this:

Same for the aircraft strobes and nav lights.where is the critical value?

I am also disappointed with the lights in FS9.  There is  a program "glights" that I used in FS2002 that really improved my lights in FS2002.
Does anyone know if "glights" works on FS9?

Regards,

You dont mention what graphics card you have .... or any other system specs for that matter .... it could all be  down to them.

I would also do a search on  SimV and or AVSIM for any lighting fixes.

My lights look nothing like that.  They are properly sized.  I have an Nvidia card (5200 I think)?

GeForce MX 440-SE
But I didnt have the problem before, so an add-on might be responsible. Another addon also damaged my strobes, but I was able to repair it (by deleting all effect files and replacing them by the original ones).

You are probably on the right track. Addons can be a problem. I hope you do not down load them straight into FS. I have found the best way to avoid problems is to down load ANY ADDON into a folder outside FS I them look through the folders to find out what files are going to be put in. I then check to make sure that no other files are going to be replaced, if they are I make sure to back them up first. I had to learn the hard way myself.
Make sure you check out the effects folder. The other thing is if asked to over write any file always say no. You can than back up that file than replace it if you want. 8)

My card is Radeon 9200, do you think that's my problem if my lights are not half as good on FS9 as on my FS2002? Its the same card for both, but what do I know? I am slightly "computer challenged". So I depend on you guys!

Thanks,

Hi Ijineda...for what it's worth I noticed this item in a post somewhere...

Q) How can I change runway light settings?

A) To get your runways configs light size add these line under fs9.cfg display:

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales edge, center,end,touchdown,runways

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.0 // scales VASI lights)
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.0 // scales approach light bars
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales RAILs and ODALs)

More the value is lower, more the light will decrease in size, 0.5, 0.005 etc.

...try it if you will but BACK UP first eh? ..commoner ;D ;D ;D
