newbee and a ?

Postby magic0 » Wed Nov 03, 2004 10:03 pm

I just got FS2004. I have read most everything (I think) but still can't figure.

Sometimes while talking with tower in ATC window I see my plane is like N929GR   "with Hotel or with Papa" or with whatever else. What is the reason for having the last with "   "  in the dialogue?

that's just a confirmation to the ATC that you have the current weather and runway information, the so called ATIS.

Every ATIS report is labeled after alphabetical character like "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Foxtrot" etc,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the character of the report also corrospond with each hour?  I seem to remember reading something to that effect.

It depends, sometimes they will do one in a half hour if the changes are severe enough. But yes, on a regular basis they change it up a letter, that way, if they changed it 2 minutes after you call in, they know what weather you have, and sometimes they will tell you on freq what the current weather is if it isn't too busy. It's good to know if you have ATIS Papa if it was just updated to Quebec.
