fuel x-feed

Some of the geezers around here may remember me asking this a few months back, but me being 15, I have forgotten.  When you turn the fuel x-feed to the left, is fuel coming out of the left feeding into the right or is it drawing fuel from the right and feeding it into the left?

While we're at it, what does APP stand for?  I know what it does, I was just wondering what it stands for.

I am unsrue about the fuel x-feed, but the 'APP' button stands for Approach, as in 'Approach Hold', or at least That is what I think, some of the mods could correct me.

if you set fuel selector valve to the left it is drawing from the left to feed the engine, set it to right the right tank is feeding the engine. In twins normal is left engine-left tank(s), right engine-right tank(s). If you set the right engine selector to left and the left engine is set to left then both engines are feeding from the left side. I hope this helps. Happy flying.

For what it's worth I think both answers are correct.

Whatever you put the X-feed control to that is the tank you'll be drawing from. watch your gages and you'll see this. Some selectors have a right, left or both postion (3 choices) On 'both' fuel will be drawn equally from both tanks. Pilots sometimes have a preference from which tank to draw from first. Others are dependent on how the tanks are arranged in the A/C for CG control. certain planes may require drawing from the left tank forst before the right.

As for APP, it stands for 'approach' on your autopilot. When making an ILS landing using a coupled approach you select this button. When the plane intercepts the glide slope/localizer it kicks off the HDG or NAV button and the autopilot will fly the ILS beam down to the runway.  Just push APP a ways before actually intercepting the GS and the autopilot will do the rest. it's really neat how it works. makes landings so much nicer in the big wide bodied planes.

Thanks jbrundt, but please not I said I am perfectly aware of what APP does, I have executed my fair share of ILS landings (I had a 4 day weekend, I've done 8 in the last 4 days).
