Also, does anyone experience having to fly in pattern due to heavy traffic? I have my AI on 100% and very, very rarely have to "go around."

i have never ever been in a holding pattern for landing and i have all the PAI airlines and cargo airlines downloaded and the traffic slider to 100%

Thanks to all you guys that replied to my post. alot of good information. I wanted to know this stuff coz i wanted to fly there. i like airports that are really packed and have alot of airport movement  :P

                                thanks again

No, there are no traffic handling procedures like that in FS.

I had to remove all my default FS airline traffic because it used to take me about 3-4 go-arounds before I could land.

Today, in the infancy of the new millennium, VNY remains the busiest general aviation airport in the world and the fifth-busiest airport in the United States.

I have my traffic set at 75-80% and I rarely have to go around.  If it was set to 100% I would be in the holding pattern forever. ;D  I have almost all the PAI loaded on my computer.  Love seeing the real airlines, plus all the general aviation stuff. ;D

Landing is not so much the problem, as taking off.  Between arrivals and departures, I could have a long wait.

^^^
are you using the default traffic? You need to do some addons before you get anything good 8)

Well, in real life, I hear that O'Hare is the most delayed(has the most delayed flights) airport in the country, and I guess that also means the most in the world, maybe excluding Heathrow.

Biggest airport in terms of coverage is in Saudi:

King Khalid International Airport

The King Khalid International Airport was opened in 1983 (1403/04 AH). Located 35 kilometers north of Riyadh, with a land area of 225 square kilometers, the King Khalid International Airport is a masterpiece of modern architecture, blending traditional Arab design with the requirements of efficiency, and incorporating into the whole the essential Islamic character of the Kingdom. It is decorated with the works of many Saudi artists. It has four terminals and among the world's largest, it is designed to cater for 15 million passengers, and its air cargo facilities are the most modern in the Middle East, able to handle 140,000 tons of cargo per year.

Got this from the recent World Airports (Special edition of Airliner World):

Top 10 airports (ranked by passenger numbers):
1. Atlanta (ATL)
2. Chicago (ORD)
3. London (LHR)
4. Tokyo (HND)
5. Los Angeles (LAX)
6. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)
7. Frankfurt (FRA)
8. Paris (CDG)
9. Amsterdam (AMS)
10. Denver (DEN)

If you want the rest, I'll post them. I think Heathrow will creep up the list though, the new terminal is being built and that, paired with the A380 introduction (which it will cater for) will breing about this rise.

Another one to look out for is Dubai International. They've started work on 2 new terminals (again which will cater for the A380) and Emirates is going very strong, especially with their financial backing.

Someone asked about when the busiest time for Heathrow is.

1 plane lands and takes off every minute for pretty much the entire day expect the dead of night. Apparently the locals don't like jumbo's a few feet from there bedroom whilst trying to sleep ;)

Sat on the tarmac at night the stream of planes coming in looks about right for reality.
I used to sit on a hill in Guildford watching the same sight along with the similar into Gatwick. Fantastic view point!

I think where Heathrow wins is that it has the busiest airspace. Along with Heathrow, the London area has Gatwick, Stanstead and London City flights along with most flights between the US and Europe passing higher through the airspace.

There is always lots of ai traffic around here. Try the airspace just West of Heathrow towards Farnborough atc is scatering planes in all direction as I fly wherever I wish to  ;D

Lastly, on my very first flight in FS2k4 I was made to circle for 10 minutes above Heathrow and then when I was called myself and the plane I was 1 minute behind got sent around due to an airliner being stuck on the active runway. Now that I liked. I could see the newspaper reports already!

I only have ai flights on medium settings.

New regulations aimed at easing congestion in air travel are about to go into effect that will probably knock O'hare out of that spot though.
