FS won't stop crashing!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby Moach » Thu Oct 28, 2004 11:15 pm

please help me, i'm going desperate here.....

i can't remember the last time i closed FS using alt+f4, the game WILL crash after about five minutes of gameplay, sometimes after only a few seconds, sometimes after almost half an hour...

but the outcome is always the same: IT WILL CRASH eventually

here's what i've tried so far:

reinstalled FS
updated graphic card drivers
reinstalled directx (9.0c)
installed winXP service pack 2
tried all sorts of combinations of graphics settings
tried running it on a clean boot (no other programs running)
tried running it in windowed mode
tried running a clean install (no addons)

seems the only thing i haven't tried yet is formatting my pc and starting from scratch

actually, the only time it didn't crash was running on safe mode... this probably means that my problem must be hardware related, right? (i don't know, plz correct me if im wrong)

troubles started when i upraded my machine and changed my video card and mother board (radeon 9800xt 256mb and asus a7n8x-x mobo)

i had to reinstall windows when i changed the mobo, but as i couldn't format, i simply installed windows OVER the old install....

all my other games run fine... only FS is still refusing to cooperate....:P

this infamous crash ranges from FS stop responding and crashing to desktop, to a very ugly blue screen crash that forces me to reset the machine.

i have NO CLUE what this might be, i honestly, i've ran out of ideas... if i can't get any help here.... i'll probably have to format my HD... :(

so PLEEEEEEEEEEASE help me.....

Moach

my specs:

athlon xp2000
asus a7n8x-x mobo
radeon 9800 xt 256mb
latest radeon catalyst drivers
1 gig ram
sound blaster live x-gamer 4.1
latest sound blaster drivers
windows XP SP2
directx 9.0c
40 gig main hard drive (about 92% full)
20 gig secondary hard drive (abot 75% full)

You say it runs in safe mode?
Could be the video card, if I'm not mistaken when running in safe mode your your system uses on board graphics and disables a video card (or on mine it does)
Maybe try a different driver for the card.

Also did you change brands of video card? Nvidia to a ATI?
Did you completely remove all old drivers? Did you use DriverCleaner 3?

I know a lot of problems can be caused by not completely removing all of a driver before updating to new ones!!

I would try to uninstall the video driver, use DriverCleaner to completly remove all left overs (follow instructions with DC 3 ! ) Then reinstall the new drivers and see if this works.

Also sounds to me like there might be a problem/issue where there are files from the old install of windows etc.  are you sure that you can't do a full format and reinstall? This would be your best bet in fixing any problems, but that's just my honest opinion...;-)

if you are having problems with the display Radeon Video Card Eg: resolution changing without warning try going into the video card control panel and turn off VPU recover it worked for me
