Acronyms like ILS are general aviation terms. There's a comprehensive llist here if that's any use. http://www.gps.tc.faa.gov/glossary.html

Other terms are FS-specific. If there's any you're not sure of the easiest way is to ask here. Never be afraid to ask. If you're too proud to ask, you might never find out. ;)

Ooh, I love abbreviations.  Especially real-world area forecasts.

Here's an exerpt one in a book I have:
cloud
SCT St 1000/2500 IN RA BECOMING BKN WITH BASE 800 AFTER 10 AREAS OF BKN Sc 2500/6000 IN RA BKN AC/AS 10000/20000 W OF PORT AUGUSTA EXTENDING THROUGHOUT BY 13Z.

-----

20 points for anyone who deciphers that.

I know what it means BTW.

Damn  ???

anyways .... I was thinking in the lines of a generel terms like SID/Star what that is and how it can help you on the journey across the big sea of stuff we cant see ;D

but the List mentioned in the first reply is really good :)
so Admin I think it would be a good idea to maybe pin it on the first page for all the NewB's  ;D
just a thought

Try the FS 'Learning Centre' too, krazyj.  There's an alphabetical index with most of the abbreviations shown.  Try to use the full titles in conversation, though - never forget that pilots get paid by the syllable!

I didn't see an entry under KIAS.  Are we all using nonstandard notation?

Let's see, I'm not a pilot, but let me use my best guess....

Scattered stratus from 1000ft to 2500ft in (in RA.. Regional Area????) becoming broken with a base at 800ft (after 10 ????) Areas of broken cirrostratus from 2500ft to 6000ft (in RA.. Regional Area????) Broken altocumulous/altostratus from 10,000ft to 20,000ft west of port Augusta until 1300 Zulu time.

Pretty close, RA is rain.
Sc is Stratocumulus
After 10 (I'm guessing) is after 10 minutes.
