Crowded airports with default AI

Postby DiveBomber189 » Sun Oct 24, 2004 8:26 pm

I like how dense with traffic my airports currently are, but all the downloaded AI traffic is killing my FPS and load times, so if I deleted all my AI except for the default traffic, will the airport still have many aircraft? Or will it revert to it's old empty state? I have afcads installed so that there are "extra" taxiways and gates.

You could also go into your traffic and set the percentage of traffic to a lower rate...say 25%...;-)

All those empty gates  :'(

OK, what I'm trying to do is keep all my folders cleaner and easier to manage, one way is getting rid of all that extra AI traffic in my aircraft and scenery folders... That is until I can get ultimate traffic or my traffic. Er, umm, dun ask why I want it like the way I asked.... I'm just wondering if I could have an airport full(and I mean almost every gate filled) of those generic airlines the game came with.

No. Even at 100%. There would be a reasonable number of aircraft, but it still will not be a very high volume, at least not compared to real life.

Heya DiveBomber,

My suggestion is to use a flightplan editor and judge for yourself what's going on at your airport with your AI flights.

I use an excellent utility called AI Flight Creator v1.6.6 by Dave Westbury to create and edit AI flightplans.  If you don't have this utility you can download it from Flightsim.com.  Just perform a search for the file name aifc166.zip.  One of the many nice features of this program (besides being free) is that you can load your existing flightplans030528.txt file and select an airport using the ICAO code.  You can then choose arrivals or departures and all of your flights will be listed here for you to examine.  If you see that you have too many flights bogging down your airport (more than 3 or 4 per hour) you can delete some flights and re-compile with TTools.

I purchased Ultimate Traffic about four months ago and I am very pleased!  Do be aware that there are a couple of updating "Tweaks" with UT that you need to know about.  If you decide to go this route just IM me here at SimV and I'll be happy to help out.  Another thing to be aware of with UT is that it will place about 40 different AI Aircraft folders into your FS 2004\Aircraft directory.  You indicated in an earlier post that you like things clean and easy to manage.  Each one of these new AI Aircraft folders are titled "Flight One AI XXX" (Where the XXX is a three-letter code for the aircraft according to ICAO standards).  You can't get cleaner and easier than this.

I would highly recommend just going ahead and saying "To #%#@ with this!" and purchasing Ultimate Traffic.  Why not?  I would also recommend getting the Spring/Summer 2004 update as well.

Thanks for the help everyone ;D But... I suck at using those editors...:-[ They tend to melt my brain... Oh well, I'll just wait until I can get UT. But I can't get it now >:( I'm getting Halo 2(unfortunatly, I'm anticipating this release more than UT... more of my friends are getting this and yeah, you know, playing with your friends is 1000x more fun than playing by yourself so...) and I don't want to ask my parents for too much...I can't believe I'm 15 and still don't have a job..

Ha, nothing wrong with being 15 and not having a job.  I'm 15 and I only picked up a job when my parents requested I help them finance my flight training.
