Using the Clickteam creator to your advantage...

I was playing around with the Clickteam Creator tonight and I had an idea.  You know the program; whenever you d/l a plane that uses a program to install it.  Well, I got the thought that I could use this to organize my planes.  So, when I installed a couple planes, I just made a .exe file of my own to install it the way I wanted it to, labeled it how I wanted, and dropped it in my Zip folder.  Voila!  I wonder if I could do this with my whole aircraft folder...

I'm not sure I see the advantage here. For the ClickTeam utility to work the files would have to be configured properly in the first place. Surely it's quicker & more convenient to organise your Aircraft folder manually.

I'm not a big fan of these auto-install files & would never install anything with them myself, although we use the idea for complex installations like the Fox Four campaign packages for CFS2. I personally configure & test all these files on a fresh install of CFS2 before posting them. Unless developers are prepared to do this with every file configured in this way they have no right to distribute their files for general use.

The ones I use are basic self-extracting zipfiles which work in exactly the same way as the ClickTeam installer without the hassle or the drawbacks of registry entries & that darned Uninistall feature. Self-extracting zipfiles can also be extracted in the usual way from the WinZip right-click options.

PS. I've spent over 5 years troubleshooting problems people get themselves into installing files to all the M$ sims & trying to teach them how it's done. This is not always easy at long range but I have a pretty good success record. The largest percentage of these problems is caused by unzipping files direct to the sim or using auto-install files (not mine I hasten to add).

Same here any troubles I have had in the past all related to a self-installing add-on,  or following "read-me" directions to unzip directly into FS9.
Not too mention many who create self installing files add a bunch of crap that doesn't need to be in FS9 such as one I remember had over 12 MB of JPEG screenshots!!!! Which you would never see unless you went in to the folder that was created inside FS9! Pointless waste of space.

Backing up the aircraft folder is a really good idea, but only if you remember to back up all the gauges too....

Hey, do whatever makes since to you, and you are comfortable with! :-) that's my thoughts...

I myself have the raid steup, and copy everything over onto another sytem via a network every two weeks..:-)

this way I should theoretically never lose anything, and I don't have tons of used CD's laying around the house..;-)
