Hello again,

For christmas ill be getting a nice pc
And fs2004 ( ive curently been using fs2000 because my system can only just manage that!)

But On the microsoft page it says requirements are 400mhz
and that sounds a bit low!
The pc im getting is 1.6 gig cpu

Also what are the crash physics like (screenshot if possible  ;D)

MS hasn't included crash effects since 9/11.   There are lots of crash add ons available, some free, some not.

As for the minimum specs.  Always remember one thing...MINIMUM.  That means it can RUN, nothing more.  They don't say it'll run well, just that it will run.

Hyperion is correct. There is a big difference between it just running and being able to enjoy it.

To run it at decent image quality with decent frame rates you'll want at least an 800mhz CPU, Geforce 4 or Radeon 9000 class or higher video card with at least 64mb ram, and 512mb system ram. Some people have run it on less but the more the better.

Yes but don't expect to be able to max the settings.  You should be able to use half settings with a decent resolution and no AA or AF, and get a reasonable FPS.

I know that cash is always a problem - but it would be a false economy to buy a machine now with only a 1.6GHz CPU which is already obsolescent.

hey Georf,i have two pcs one of them is running with P3
,800mhz,320ram,64video ram8x in a ge-force,runs perfect,the other one its quite faster but it isnt big deal the difference,Athlon 2.2,520ramddr,128video ram in a ge-force4,the first one its running in a ultra high performance graphic mode,its a matter of video card,in my opinion without a sense to ofence anyone here,you do not need a super computer to run aceptable fs9

Don't want to fall out with you ALROT, but I'm sorry, that is not good advice.

A GeForce 4 MX will not give the special video effects that FS9 is capable of and a card with only 64MB onboard RAM is what people are getting rid of, not buying. So a new g/card will be necessary for starters.

Also 192MB RAM isn't enough to even run Windows XP (and you'd be crazy to even think of running any other O/S) let alone FS2004 as well which anyone knows is very memory hungry - needs at least 1 GB RAM.

And I'm sorry, a 1.6GHz CPU is OBSOLETE. I wouldn't even sell a machine of that power to my business clients, let alone to someone who wants to run a VERY CPU INTENSIVE game.

For what it's worth if you want my opinion, if you buy this machine you will be very disappointed. You will have a very poor FS2004 experience if it will run at all with the spec you have given.

Save your money, get everyone to give you cash for Xmas. No socks, T-shirts, smelly deodorants, jumpers - just MONEY. Then come back and tell us how much you've got - you'll get loads of advice on what to buy.

But PLEASE - let your friend find someone else to buy his machine - someone who just wants to play Solitaire, surf the net and do a little bit of word processing.

1.6ghz ain't bad. I'm running a 700mhz machine and it's handled everything i've set it to so far. (Admittedly I havn't installed anything new for over a year.)

I'll bet he's upgrading from something far worse that 1.6 ghz so i think he'll be far from dissapointed.

When considering an upgrade spec, you might also want to think about future upgrades of your software rather than just the advertised minima for FS9.

The faster the better on CPU and more memory is also very helpful.  A decent graphics card also helps, but you can upgrade that more easily later than the core components.

That way you'll get more out of FS9 and be more likely to be happy with the performance of FS10 when it comes out as well.

FWIW, my current system is a 3GHz P4 with 2Gig RAM and an ATI 9700 Pro.  It runs FS9.1 at max everything very smoothly.  Although places like central London can bring down the indicated frame rates to the mid teens, aircraft still handle very smoothly and there are none of the obvious lags that were evident running FS2002 on a P400 system.
