Military AI

Postby gassius_maximus » Sat Oct 09, 2004 9:50 pm

Hi everyone,

Can anyone help me?  I'm fairly new to flight plan writing so please bear with me.  I am trying to write flight plans for military aircraft to make them do "combat patrols" over particular areas.  All I can manage to do is get them to fly from one airport to another.
Any help is very much appreciated

Not knowing a THING about writing flight plans (I mean nothing at all), couldn't you just find smaller airports or other markers that outline your perimeter and have them fly that "circuit"?  Check the TTools Forums.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

That's all AI aircraft can do, fly between airports.

I remember someone was once thinking that if you put a VOR in the airports.txt file, you might be able to get the AI aircraft to use it as a waypoint, that they would might fly to the VOR, look for the airport, and then fly to next destination. I've never tried it, but some of the AI pros might know ;)

That sounds like a very plausible idea there, *ponders* me thinks I'm gonna go try that... :-)

You can do much more . Firstly you can make aircraft do touch and goes at one airport very easily for as long as you want.

But if you want a plane to fly around, just check the arrival time in flightplans.txt and make the departure time FROM that airport less than 30 mins after. That way it will circle in the area without landing until the planned departure time before returning to the original starting airport.

From memory I think you can also make it do touch and goes at the second airport for a scheduled amount of time before then returning to the departure airport.

Sorry, but with respect it does help if you read the manual if you're trying to use something as powerful and well-written as TTools. It also happens to have one of the best written and the most easy to follow that I've ever come across.
