Aircraft Initialization Failure

I periodcially download selected aircraft from SimViation. Lately I have had problems playing FS2004. When I try to play the game and during boot up, a warning box appears stating: AIRCRAFT INITIALIZATION FAILURE. PROJECT OPENSKY - CRJ - 200LR. When I click OK, my screen goes back to the Main Menu thus I am unable to open up and play the game.  I already deleted the CRJ-200LR aircraft from the game. Anyone got any suggestions? I may land up reloading the game. I saved all the aircraft, gauge, sound and effect files just in case.

Before going to the trouble of uninstalling FS 2004 and reinstallation try this:

1.)  Using the Windows XP Explorer browse C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

2.)  In the FS9 folder you should see a file called FS9.cfg.
     Right click this file.  A drop-down menu will appear.  Left click on Copy.  Now move the mouse to any clear area of the screen (an area that does not contain any Icons).  Right click the mouse again.  When the drop-down menu appears, left click Paste.  This will place a file called "Copy of FS9.cfg".  You can leave the name of this backup file alone or you can rename it to FS9.Bak (like I do).

3.)  Using a Windows text editor like Notepad Open the FS9.cfg file.  Go down the list of items looking for the titles of items in the square brackets.  You are looking for a title that says [FrameCallNoWarn].  Once you find this title look for any items listed below it.  If you see anything, delete it (most likely the CRJ-200LR is listed here).

4.)  Save and Close the FS9.cfg in the Notepad Editor.

5.)  Restart FS 2004 as you normally do.

One little quirk about FS 2004 is that it's supposed to give you a warning if there is an aircraft which may cause issues if loaded into the game.  The list of aircraft is kept in the FS9.cfg file and is not deleted if you merely remove the aircraft as you have done.  Deleting all items listed under [FrameCallNoWarn] will remove these possibly incompatible aircraft and the warning shouldn't appear again.

Thanks for the quick response. However, under the [FrameCallNoWarn] I did not see anything close to a CRJ-200LR. There were five items listed and I can identify four for sure belonging to other aircraft. The fifth item I could not. Any further suggestions.

It appears the flight you have set as default (to load on startup) no longer has the designated plane on file.

After a new setup is selected, Save As Default with the operational plane selected; now, the warning should disappear.

Bill I do not think that is the problem how could he make it part of the default flight without first having to load the plane? and from what he says that can not be the case.
Was this plane part of a self install plane if so you should uninstall rather than delete.

This plane was an FS2002 only aircraft which I mistakenly loaded in my FS2004. My FS2002 works fine with this aircraft. I did not self load this aircraft. I loaded it from the Simviation list of download aircraft.  This was my first problem with downloading from SimViation which I have been for a few years now.

Bubblehead. Have you fixed the problem? If you deleted the offending aircraft & providing it's not used as AI traffic I'm sure Bill's suggestion should do it. Select a different aircraft (from the Create a Flight menu) & save that as the default flight.

PS. Most FS2002 aircraft should work in FS9 with no problem. Some animations might not function on the early FSDS1 models

I can't change the default aircraft as the moment I click OK on the Warning, my PC goes back to the Main Menu. It will not allow me to  get to the program at all. If after everything, there is no joy and I am forced to reload FS9, what files in addition to aircraft, gauges, sound, and effects should I save? I have a second drive I can transfer the files temporarily.

Ok One way to remove the default flight is to remove the flight from the my flights folder. Another way is to rename the fs9cfg file then restart FS2004 this will rebuild the fs9 cfg file and put you at seattle tacoma in the cessna 172.

I was going to suggest this but wasn't sure it would do the trick. If it works this would obviously be the easiest way to fix it.

I'm getting a little frustrated. I uninstalled the FS9 program amd subsequently re-installed it. I still am unable to play the game. The warning regarding aircraft initialization still appears and when I click OK, the screen immediately goes back to Desk Top. Anyone else got any ideas? Or shall I forget playing FS9 altogether and be hapy with FS2002?

I can understand your frustration. Unless you manually deleted them I suspect that some database files from your original FS9 were left after you uninstalled it. Did you try deleting fs9.cfg as Gary suggested? If what he says is correct that should fix the problem.

Thanks yaw'll. Alleluja! I finally corrected the problem. For those interested, here's what happened.

When I first decided to remove FS9, I could'nt find it in the Add/Remove Program list, and I could'nt find it in the Programs/Microsoft Games list therefore I was unable to uninstall it. Instead I deleted it then re-install. As I said previously that it problem still persisted. However, after the reload, FS9 appeared in the Programs/Games list.  When I clicked on it in an effort to uninstall, I saw a "Return to Default" line. I clicked on that and restarted the program. Problem solved. I then reloaded all previous files (aircraft, sound, gauges and effect). Now I'm back to normal. This time I chose one of the original FS9 aircraft (B737-400) as my default. Nonetheless, thanks for all your input, They help direct me to the solution.

Glad you fixed it. For future reference you should be able to uninstall FS9 properly from the option on CD-1.
