Where to put AI files

Postby stevewilson » Fri Sep 17, 2004 5:33 pm

I've d/l the B-52-GMAX file and installed it, and it works great.

There is also a folder for AI traffic, but I don't know how or where to put this so I can have the buffs as AI traffic.

Can any one explane this to me please.

Normally, xxxx_traffic.bgl would come with a scenery package

wji; Thanks for the reply. However all that came in the d/l was five texture files and an aircraft.cfg txt file, no bgl file.

I have seen these being used as AI. The are for the B-52, so there is a way of using them. I just haven't figuared it out.

Stevewilson,

You have to do some editing of your existing flightplan to get this aircraft into "the list".

The basic tool to do this is TrafficTools.  It creates flightplans.  The problem is it works with text editor files that are sdort of like trying to read a DNA sequence  ;).

There are numerous "front ends" for working with TTools that make the process of setting up and managaing flight plans FAR easier.  My favorites are AI Traffic Mover (AITM) and YRoute.  All three of these programs are freeware.

Once you learn a bit about how to install and use the programs... you can just assign specific new flights to ANY aircraft in your aircraft folder...... or you can "substitute" an aricraft for all the existing flights assigned to another aircraft's flight plans.

Takes a bit to get used to.... but it is actually not hard.

And for some more realism in your general AI traffic.... take a look at my post in "Other Sites" about the AI planes that have pushback tractors moving them and ground support vehicles showing up with them.

best,

.................john

O.K., when you wrote it had an AI Folder i presumed it contained the AI_traffic.bgl. This *.bgl feature in FS9 is fantastic inasmuch as the *.bgl contains everything to make the AI planes do their stuff -- be it circuits or other.

from TTools Readme:
"20. Aircraft...txt File
This is one of the three source files that the compiler needs to create a traffic file. It is a list of all the aircraft that are referenced by AI flight plans (see the FlightPlans...txt file).

Just adding a new aircraft to this list won

Sounds like you are saying the B-52 came with 2 a/c, the flyable one and an AI only version?

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
