F18 - Meatball - Question

Postby Chaplain.Kaos » Sat Sep 11, 2004 2:31 pm

Evening all,

Quick one;

My friend and I have the same plane. The recent f18 Super Hornet (excellent model!!!) by TEAM FS KBT.

However - I have a handy Meatball ILS HUD option with tailhook etc. He doesnt. I have tried sending him my panel folder from that aircraft, it still doesnt appear. What we doing wrong? I cant recall downloading a separate programme.

Hmmm.

On another note, is it normal to stall so badly sub 400kias on semi tight - tight banked turns.

Uncertain if this will help but might be worth a shot, assuming by "sending" you mean through email try to first zip the folder.
And the stalling thing I wonder the same it will also stall easily on take off, I have asked this question before and really no answer as to a fix or if it is normal.
We need a F18 pilot here to get a answer ;D

I've never flown an F18 or anything like it but I do know that as you crank in lots of bank angle the drag graph starts to get pretty horrific. Essentially, you're forced to haul lots of back pressure in a really steep turn which means a high angle of attack. You probably already know this but in case you don't, remember that the wing stalls at a specific ANGLE OF ATTACK not a specific airspeed. I suspect you'd have to be pretty balls to the wall through a searing turn in those jets to keep ahead of the drag enough not to run the risk of a high speed stall. With a hugely strong aiframe and very powerful flight controls I wonder if those things can be forced into a high speed stall more easily than you'd imagine. Are you going for max power in time for the big fan to spool up and what kind of Gs are you pulling? Just some thoughts.

hmm. Well I zipped the whole panel folder. Didnt work.

Regarding stalling, Gs can be as high as 6 to as low as 2. If you yank it hard below about 400 kias you can instantly stall with very high AoA. You can do a funny tail dance as you walk along on your burners at roughly 80o AoA.

Anyway - i shaln't complain as I wouldnt have the first idea about creating aircraft. The thing, looks very nice and has the best Cockpit/HUD for a jet that Ihave seen.

It didn't cross my mind before but if your trying to email the panel to him chances are the file is to big. Most email programs limit the size of a file being sent, this is probably the problem.
You might try to break the file into smaller pieces and try that. If it is a download then just send him the link so he can download himself. If it is payware add-on then it is illegal to do so anyway ;)

But I think emails (like outlook) have a setting that is automatically configured (but can be reconfigured) that splits big emails files into smaller ones and compiles them at the reciever's end. However, I hear it also leaves room for corruption and the server usually limits file sizes to 1MB anyway, so it might be the server limit.

It sounds like you don't have the rcb-miljet gauge folder, which contains the gauge.  If you don't have the gauge you obviously can't display it even if you are using the same panel.cfg file.  Look for a folder called rcb-miljet in either your main gauges folder or in the f-18/gauges folder.

Basically what Webb said. Your friend doesn't have the gauge so no matter how many times you send the panel the specific gauge won't show up on it. :P
