My motherboard has an inbuilt MX440

Yeah, that's the same 'card' I'm using.  I can't even turn on AA and/or AF, because when I do,  the 2d panels on virtually every aircraft get scaled by 200%. It's totally weird.

I have most of my sliders down now, so I'm getting about 34 fps average.  I'm not too worried about it really.

Increasing the resolution makes the graphics card work harder, and so does the AA. I dont understand how you are getting higher FPS than before.

I didn't increase them both, I increased my res while decreasing my AA and found that this took a bit of the load off my card and inproved frames.

Not sure either.

I think maybe the "point" of this is that using higher resolution to get a good image qulaity takes less resources than running AA at a high setting to get rid of "the jaggies".

So if you turn DOWN AA..... and increase the screen rez.... you'll see a increase in fps.

Maybe that is it.

Your getting there I think, in a nutshell, GeForce 4 MX high res is ok, FSAA most certainly is not.  ;)

It worked for me. ;D
I have never been able to run 3D clouds...at all. The FR always took a MAJOR hit and it made flying un-fun. Last night I got home and turned the AA on in my card prefs vs. in FS9. I can now run w/light 3D clouds over cities (Denver, CO - 500 ft AGL) with most of my sliders up to a respectable level and still get 23-28 depending on how high I have elevation detail and sight distance cranked up.

My point exactly, but I don't think it'll work for everyone.

Less anti alaiasing at higher resolution will obviously increase performance, its been that way since AA first appeared.

This isn't the case with a Geforce 4, its the same with just about every card bar none.

I think we've suceeded in confusing the issue here!  ;D - I need to go get my camera out, see you in the screenie forums....
