Water texture question

Postby Politically Incorrect » Sun Sep 05, 2004 9:18 pm

I have installed some water textures but what I dislike is the  rapid rate at which the waves are produced .
Is there a way for me to slow the rate that waves are produced?
Obviously there must be since that is something that is added to the textures.

I don't belive so, but if you don't like one try another!  My preference it the Lemoncat one available here at SimV as I like to fly water dogs from time to time and that looks the best close up!

There are soooo many out there, just keep trying different ones!  Odds are that you will find something you like sooner or later ;)

I have the package by the Lyons, I have tried the Lemoncat ones but the water is too dark blue, and the wave effect is just as fast (probably because it contains the Lyons package), I would just like to get the waves to slow a little.
They work fine for flying around the ocean but are very unrealistic on inland lakes such as the ones I fly by most in the Appalacian Mountain area.

If I'm right, the effects are nothing more than replacement textures, going over the default...

Politically Incorrect,

I am totally guessing here...... but the wave "effect" is probably an "effect" file.  It is likely based on the effects engine in the sim....and is probably NOT a part of the Lyons (or any other) water enhancement package.

Effects files have various parameters that can be edited.  maybe this one can too for the periodic generation of the wave effect.

Just a hought to get Someone's mental gears working.  This is beyond me to modify.  ;)

best,

I have an idea.............

I found an effect file in the effects folder.
I can't do anything cause I don't use water effects anyway since my computer can't cope and it takes too long to keep on having to open the flightsim.

It's called "wavecontroller".

I think it's what you're looking for.

Open it up and you'll find different parameters and things.

Go to "lifetime" under the "library effect" menu.
And try changing the lifetime to a little higher.

or

Go to "delay" under the "controller.0" menu.
And try changing both values to a little higher.

If neither work....  I don't know.

Try them.

Thanks!!!
I had looked everywhere but as normal never look in the most obvious place :-[
I'm nortorious for making more work than necessary :)
I'll give it a whirl and see what I come up with, guess I can't do any harm as long as I keep a back up!
I hope I wasn't misunderstood, I think the textures that have been put out are awesome, just a little too much sparkle for my taste. So hopefully the designers take no offense, none was intended!!!
