CARRIER INSTALL !!!HELP

I DOWNLOADED THE 18 CARRIER PACK -FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS FOR FOLDERS AND BELIEVE I HAVE DONE IT CORRECTLY . I WAS TO PASTE IN THE SEN CONFIG INFO THAT WAS IN READ ME (NEXT SEQUENCE WITCH WOULD BE 39)AT BOTTOM , IT WILL NOT LET ME / IT PUTS IT AT THE TOP AND SHUFFLES ALL OTHERS DOWN. NOW WHEN I START THE GAME IT SAYs CANNOT FIND CARRIER 39. AND THEN BUILDS A NEW DATABASE.  I GO TO SEN CONFIG AND ALL HAS CHANGED. IN SEN LIBRARY IT IS # POSITION BUT WILL NOT LET ME MOVE ALL THE WAY TO 39 . IT STOPS AT 38.  IN MY FS9 FOLDER I NOW HAVE 3 CONFIG FILES (OLD CONFI , NEW, ORIG NOW THAT I HAVE CONFUSED EVERYONE CAN YOU HELP?   BAX

I dislike the idea of adding new scenery by manually editing Scenery.cfg. One small typo can easily mess the whole thing up.

I suggest the best method for doing this is to revert to the original Scenery.cfg if possible. Then activate the carriers from the FS9 Scenery Library. I've been using this method to install/activate all types of 3rd party scenery in my own M$ sims since FS98. It always worked fine for me. http://www.simviation.com/lair/fs2004sc.htm

I agree totally with Hagar. I can never understand why ANY scenery ever includes instructions for editing scenery.cfg. Crazy thing to suggest for anyone to do who doesn't have the necessary experience.

I have yet to come across any scenery that doesn't work by activating it through the FS scenery library and my advice to anyone is - if you have to ask HOW to make it work, don't install the scenery. Sorry

Incidentally, if the designer hasn't included the necessary excludes and flattens to make a scenery work, you will almost certainly end up with problems if you try to introduce them through 'switches' in the scenery.cfg file and don't know how to. Best idea is to get onto the designer and make them incorporate them in the scenery itself.

Ahh - that's what most of us say - until your whole sim gets screwed. Hagar and I can list so many examples over the last few years of aircraft and scenery where innocently following the instructions of the 'designer' has led to he need for a complete reinstall of the sim plus then a reinstall of all the addon sceneries and aircraft as well. That's why you see advice like the following being repeated whatever instructions the designer gives. Things like

- don't install direct into the sim - put stuff into a temporary folder and move it by hand

- don't install into key folders like the main Scenery and Texture folders (unless you know what you're doing and have kept a copy of the folder you're installing into  :) )

- don't start messing with the sim cfg files unless you keep a record of what you have changed and can SEE the difference as a result AND have kept a copy of the files you have changed

it goes on

Anyway, just my 2 pennies-worth. Nobody has to take any notice.

Excellent advice Roger. This should be posted as a warning every time you download a file. IMHO

I have nothing against trying new ideas but the old tried & trusted methods invariably work best. This doesn't apply only to installing addons to FS.

I HAVE BEEN DOWNING TO TEMP AND HAND MOVING
AND BACKING UP. I HAVE INSTALLED AIRCRAFT GIZMOS AND EXTRAS AND HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE AND DONE WELL. I GOT GREEDY AND DIDNT WAIT OR TAKE THE TIME TO MAYBE FIND THE THE CORRECT METHOD ON THIS CARRIER THING. IF THERE IS AN EASY WAY OF INSTALLING THE CARRIER IM ALL EARS. EXACT DETAILS
WOULD BE NICE (IM FROM TEXAS)  I WANT THE CARRIERS.

Hi Bax. I don't have this carrier pack myself so can't give specific advice. I assume these are conventional scenery files in which case they should be configured ready to install like any other 3rd party scenery. From what you said in your first post you've already pasted the files somewhere. Providing the files are properly configured into folders as shown in my tute you can activate them from any location. You can leave the files where they are or move them to the FS9\Addon Scenery folder. This is not important as long as the files are properly configured & you know where they are. Instead of modifying Scenery.cfg fire up FS9 & activate them from the Scenery Library as explained in my tute. It couldn't be easier, trust me. Without checking it out I don't know if the 18 carriers will be activated separately or all together.

Thank you gentlemen the carriers are in and working.
All I have to do now is trial and error the catipult, cables
or spoilers, aircraft etc. I realize now I made it to complicated. Your input was very helpful.
Im sure I will have more ?? in the future
